Fantasy RPG fans have had it pretty great recently. A surprising phenomenon that swept up at The Game Awards last year,Baldur’s Gate 3is widely considered to be one of the greatest RPGs ever made, and the closest the gaming industry has ever gotten to replicatingtheDungeons and Dragonsexperiencevirtually. And as if that wasn’t enough, 2024 is about to drop a few more gigantic fantasy RPGs, including the long-awaitedDragon’s Dogma 2.
A sequel that fans have waited just over a decade for,Dragon’s Dogma 2already has a lot of hype surrounding it, and the more Capcom shows, the more fans are going to end up hopping aboard in the coming weeks. Carrying on one of its predecessor’s best features,Dragon’s Dogma 2will feature a plethora of classes, referred to here as “Vocations.” While players will have access to the usual archer, mage, fighter, and thief classes, they will also gain access to some more unique “Hybrid” classes, one of which could be the perfect option for anyBaldur’s Gate 3Bard players.
Baldur’s Gate 3 Bard Players Will Want to Try Out Dragon’s Dogma 2’s Trickster
Dragon’s Dogma 2’s Trickster Has Some Similar Support Abilities to Baldur’s Gate 3’s Bard
Unlocked later on inDragon’s Dogma 2’s story, players will have access to a handful of Hybrid Vocations, classes that offer a more unique playstyle, often combining the traits of a few different classes such as a mage and a fighter.Dragon’s Dogma 2’s Trickster Hybrid Vocation, however, is wholly unique. Brand-new for the sequel,Dragon’s Dogma 2’s Trickster is a pacifist class that deals virtually no damage to enemies, but instead uses its mastery of smoke magic to trick enemies and support allies.
The Trickster has a number of abilities that will be fairly familiar to fans ofBaldur’s Gate 3’s Bard class. The first of these is a Trickster ability called Aromatic Resurgence, which buffs the player’s teammates significantly, primarily in the damage department. This is fairly similar to the Bard’s True Strike Cantrip, which grants the player Advantage on their next attack roll, and the Bard’s Bless secret spell, which gives up to three party members a bonus to attack rolls and saving throws.
The Trickster is also equipped with a slew of abilities that are used to confuse and intimidate enemies, opening them up for some vicious counterattacks from the player’s party. One of the most powerful Trickster abilities revealed so far is Dragon’s Delusion, which conjures a smoky facade of a dragon right in front of a group of enemies, terrifying them into submission and leaving them wide open to attacks.Baldur’s Gate 3players might draw a similarity between Dragon’s Delusion and theBard’s level 3 spell Fear, with the latter also seeing the player project an image that terrifies nearby enemies, causing them to drop their weapons and suffer from the Fearful status effect.
Dragon’s Dogma 2’s Trickster Offers a Completely New Way to Play
ButDragon’s Dogma 2’s Tricksterhas plenty of more unique tricks up their sleeve as well. Though they’re unable to directly damage enemies, the Trickster can harm opponents in more discrete ways. The Trickster’s basic attack sees the player use their Ceremonial Censer to engulf enemies in a cloud of smoke, which draws the enemies directly to them. The Trickster can also deploy a smoky clone of themselves, which also draws the enemies away from the rest of the party.
On top of these aggro-based abilities, the Trickster can also place an illusory wall and an illusory platform, with the former being able to block the enemies' sight, and the latter being able to trick enemies into falling to their death. Combining all the Trickster’s abilities can easily lead whole groups of enemies to their immediate death, with players being able to create a false platform and guide enemies to it via a smoke clone.
