Baldur’s Gate 3is a game with quite a lot of replayability potential. It offers the player many options inside and outside of combat, as it is based on the game Dungeons & Dragons, a game where dice rolls determine one’s fate.
Everything about the player’s character and team is customizable – from appearances, to classes and abilities. This makes for a wide variety of combinations. The game allows the players to tackle all the challenges they will face in numerous ways. One way to tackle harder fights inBaldur’s Gate 3is to master the art of stealth and surprise attacks.

What Does Surprising Your Enemies Do?
Catching enemies by surprise can be a game-changing advantage inBaldur’s Gate 3.When a player surprises their enemies, they get a round where they’re able to attack their target without them being able to fight back as they are stunned with surprise.
Surprising will allow the player to get the upper hand and plan the next round even better to have the best outcome. Whenever possible, the player should try to surprise the enemies, especially in bigger fights where the player knows it will be difficult to emerge on top.

To Split The Party Or Not To Split
The player inBaldur’s Gate 3has the option to split up their party. This can be very useful when the goal is to surprise the enemy.
Splitting up the party can allow the player’s stealthiest character to scout ahead before starting the fight to determine the number of enemies and how to best tackle the fight.

Splitting up is also not always the answer, however. Some players might want their entire party in the same spot before a battle commences.
Whichever tactic the player goes with, they should make sure their characters do not step in the red area, which is the enemy’s field of view, while they are sneaking around or it will activate a stealth check which could ruin the player’s chances to surprise the enemy.
The Best Builds To Make A Surprise Attack
The best classes to sneak around inBaldur’s Gate 3are the Rogue and the Ranger.Rogues, such as Astarion, have an ability unique to their class to perform what’s called a sneak attack. It should be used to its fullest when hidden, as it will allow him to deal extra damage to foes. The Bard, Druid, and the Monk are also quite decent at stealth.
When it comes to races, the subclass of Elf and Half-Elf, the Wood Elf, and the Wood Half-Elf are the absolute best in stealth, thanks to having Mask of the Wild.
Stealth is based on dexterity, so the higher the dexterity, the better at stealth and sneaking up to surprise the enemies the character will be.
How To Surprise The Enemy In Baldur’s Gate 3
To best sneak around, the player should, of course, firstly, activate hide. On PC, this can be done by pressing C to hide the character in control, or pressing Shift + C for the entire party.
On PlayStation 5, the player should press on R1 and then Hide to stealth a single character, for group stealth, the player can hold the down button.
When that is done, some terrains can help the player sneak around and surprise the enemy better. For example, blowing out torches will lower the enemy’s field of vision and make it darker, making a surprise attack easier, unless the enemy has Dark Vision. Another way is to hide in tall grass or thick bushes, as it will also make it harder for the enemy to spot the characters.
Characters can also use spells to increase their stealth, one example beingPass Without Trace, a level 2 spell. This grants the characters a +10 to their stealth checks, making them almost unnoticeable to the enemy. The Druid, the Ranger, the Cleric, and the Bard can all make use of this spell.
To sneak around even more carefully, the player can enter turn-based mode, which makes it easier to move the characters around while being careful of the environment and other enemies around them.
With all that in mind, the last thing to do is stand behind an enemy and attack them, this will cause the other enemies in the area to be surprised. While that is happening, the characters should attempt to take out as many enemies as possible and remain in a safe position as the enemies will be able to move again in the second round.
Surprising enemies is a very clever tactic when used correctly, however, players would need to practice it properly so as to not make mistakes when they’re about to take on dangerous enemies.
Baldur’s Gate 3 is available to play on PC and PlayStation 5.
