Summary

A recently surfaced bug inCyberpunk 2077turns cars into hats by spawning them on top of V’s head, impeding gameplay in a truly bizarre fashion. The unusual issue adds to the list ofglitches that were seemingly introduced with theCyberpunk 2077update 2.0.

That’s not to say that CD Projekt Red’s latest game isn’t in a fairly polished state right now, not least because the studio spent the last three years working on everything from bug fixes to performance improvements, on top of introducing the occasional content drop. But given theincredible scope of the 2.0 update forCyberpunk 2077, some obscure technical issues inevitably evaded detection during development.

The latest such problem was spotted by Reddit user wellforthebird, who recently stumbled upon a peculiar bug causing the occasional car to spawn on their V’s head and remain stuck to it. The resulting monstrosity of a hat wasn’t merely a visual bug, but actively inhibited gameplay beyond merely obscuring the character’s line of sight, with the player reporting that the issue prevented them from entering cars and getting on bikes. A brief clip of the problem that they shared on Reddit even showed them using their newfound metal hat to shield themselves from bullets by looking down, thus demonstrating one silver lining stemming from this bizarreCyberpunk 2077bug.

What actually causes a car to spawn on top of V’s head is unclear, but given the lack of similar reports preceding this newly surfaced complaint, it’s feasible that the problem was introduced in the 2.0 patch, the first major update for the game in over a year. Ditto for thebizarreCyberpunk 2077glitch leaving police with destroyed cars, which also emerged online in the days following the September 21 update.

While CD Projekt Red already released one patch for the game since this unusual problem found its way to social media, theCyberpunk 2077update 2.01doesn’t appear to tackle the issue of automobiles insisting on being hats; CDPR’s changelog does refer to several vehicle-related problems being fixed, but doesn’t mention anything in the way of head-mounted cars.

The lack of corroborating evidence from other sources suggests that the problem isn’t widespread. The sole player who did stumble upon the glitch also clarified that they only encountered the issue while doing the Flying Drugs side quest in the Badlands. And though CDPR isn’t planning any more major updates forCyberpunk 2077, bugs of this sort still have a chance of getting resolved via future hotfixes in the vein of this week’s 2.01 patch.

Cyberpunk 2077is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
