While theories and speculation pick up on howBorderlands 4will continue the tale of Pandora and the greatermysteries of theBorderlandsuniverse, given the past events, there is one longtime ally of the heroic Crimson Raiders and Vault Hunters who will surely return. Previous plot developments and current circumstances have placed Doctor Patrica Tannis in a position to play an integral part in the upcoming entry, possibly taking over a key role in it.

Tannis' History In Borderlands
Dr. Patricia Tannis is an archaeologist, the foremost expert onEridian technology, and a general whiz when it comes to fixing, inventing, and modifying all manner of gadgets. She is eccentric, to say the least, and many of her personal quirks and idiosyncrasies sometimes affected her ability to communicate and work effectively. Previously hired by the Dahl corporation, her scientific curiosity and experiments also often came at the expense of the safety of those around her. Nevertheless, she is well-versed in her fields, and has consistently provided invaluable insight and assistance to the Crimson Raiders and Vault Hunters. In fact, it was her interaction and continued cooperation with them that helped her overcome some of her traumas and social phobias.
Most significantly, Tannis inheritedAngel’s Siren powersat the conclusion ofBorderlands 2, thus adding “Sirentologist” to her resume as she subsequently began testing and mastering them. Tannis has been a reliable figure in the fight to preventBorderlands' villainous forces from unleashing devastation upon the universe, and keeping the populace shielded from their machinations by helping the Raiders and Hunters on their missions.

Borderlands 3left off on a climactic cliffhanger, and the core group find themselves at a crossroads. Lilith, the mostwell-known Sirenand former commander of the Raiders, awakened her full powers, apparently sacrificing herself in the process to prevent a global catastrophe.BL3’s Director’s Cut depicted young Siren Ava uncovering information that pointed to Lilith being alive, but seemingly trapped between realities. Tannis has intimate knowledge of and experience with searching for Eridian Vaults and other related elements of their history and technology. Now that she is a Siren herself, her expertise combined with her powers would put her in a powerful and important position.
Since Tannis' Siren abilities translate to technopathy, this will likely be extremely useful, as it would greatly aid in combing the cosmos for any signs of Lilith, or other Sirens.Borderlands 4’s narrative could center around the search and rescue of Lilith, as Tannis and Ava may serve as guides to direct the next batch of Hunters in this quest, and perhaps encounter the legendary seventh Siren during the course. Gearbox might even surprise fans by having Tannis as aplayable Hunter inBorderlands 4, though this is probably less likely than her serving as a central NPC. In any case, many aspects point towards Tannis having a greatly expanded role inBL4, and it’s highly probable she will factor into the story in substantial ways.
