The second Season ofCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2andCall of Duty: Warzone 2recently debuted, and with it came Ashika Island, a fast-paced battle royale map that’s harboring a couple of interesting Easter eggs. The new season was originally intended to premiere earlier in the month, but publisher Activision and developerInfinity Ward evidently saw fit to delay the releaseby about two weeks.
The primary draw of this newCall of Dutycontent update is the return of Resurgence mode, a twist on the standardCall of Duty: Warzoneformula which allows defeated players to respawn after a certain amount of time rather than fighting in the Gulag – provided they’ve still got a teammate in the field, of course. Resurgence mode was a hit in the originalCall of Duty: Warzone, and many longtime players are likely thrilled to see it make a comeback. There’s more to the new Ashika Island map than this gimmick, however.

Released on February 15, the Ashika Island map inCall of Duty: Warzone 2comes loaded with a couple of interesting Easter eggs. Firstly, fishing makes its return to theCall of Dutyseries for the first time sinceCall of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. This time around, however, it’s done with explosives instead of standard fishing gear. Yet, most interesting of all is the fact that players can store fish in their inventory and feed them to a statue of a sea lion in the aquarium area of the map. Doing so typically yields some uninteresting rewards such as lethal and tactical equipment, but it’s nonetheless worth checking out at least once.
Beyond that,Ashika Island features Castle, a fan favorite multiplayer map from 2008’sCall of Duty: World at Warthat also returned to 2021’sCall of Duty: Vanguard. This isn’t the only classicCall of Dutymap to return as part ofCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’s Season 2 update. Dome fromCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, which was already part of the Al Mazrah map, is now a part of the 6v6 multiplayer map rotation. Coincidentally, Dome also made an appearance duringCall of Duty: Vanguard’s lifespan, though it was named Radar in that go-around.
On the whole, Ashika Island and its many secrets are certain to keep fans ofCall of Duty: Warzone 2preoccupied for a time. However, some are already looking ahead to what’s in store forCall of Duty: Warzone 2’s upcoming third Season.
Call of Duty: Warzone 2is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
