Buy stations are hugely important to the flow of eachCall of Duty: Warzone 2match, but some players are complaining that the uneven spacing of these important map elements can upset the balance of the game.Call of Duty: Warzone 2offers up some serious changesrelative to its predecessor in the form of an all-new map, a reworked gulag system, and revamped PvE engagements, but, in the minds of many, Infinity Ward’s new battle royale title isn’t a compromise-free iteration on the originalCall of Duty: Warzone.
Released a few weeks after the late-October debut ofCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, the communalreception toCall of Duty: Warzone 2has been fairly negative. The title still bears a mostly negative overall score on Steam, and respondents on Metacritic have whittled down the title’s user score to an equally low 2.3. Most of the ire surrounding the game likely stems from macro-level performance and balance issues, but some of the negative feedback also comes from more invested players beleaguered by less-obvious issues.

Case in point, Reddit user hrz12 recently took to theCall of Duty: Warzonesubreddit to call attention to a recentCall of Duty: Warzone 2match they played in which four buy stations were situated next to one another. The response to the post was succinctly summed up by another Reddit user who quipped that had “3000 devs and not one of them could write a decent algorithm for spawning shops in a more consistent fashion.” The post also highlights the uneven distribution of these crucial map elements. While three or four buy stations may spawn in one area, other parts of Al Mazrah may be barren, which places an even greater emphasis on a squad’s landing location.
Issues such as these are particularly perplexing, asCall of Duty: Warzone 2seems to betaking priority over theCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2multiplayer experience. The originalCall of Duty: Warzonewas a smash success that remained relevant through three separateCall of Dutyreleases, and, given its free-to-play structure, it remains an important part of publisher Activision’s revenue stream. Despite this,Call of Duty: Warzone 2still has problems both small and large that need to be addressed.
That said, the less-than-stellar reception ofCall of Duty: Warzone 2was offset somewhat by the accompanying DMZ mode.An idealCall of Dutyco-op experienceof a sort not seen since the spec ops missions in the originalCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, the DMZ mode could represent the next big thing for the FPS franchise, though that mode also makes use of the broken buy station spawning system.
Call of Duty: Warzone 2is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
