However, before EA Motive’sIron Mangame was revealed to the world,Just Causedeveloper Avalanche Studioshad its own Iron Man title in the works, though it was ultimately canceled for unknown reasons. As it turns out, there was yet another unreleased video game starring the one and only Tony Stark, and it would have been made by the same studio behind the underappreciated 2003 movie tie-inX2: Wolverine’sRevenge.

Kevin Edwards, who was working at Genepool Software at the time thatX2: Wolverine’s Revengewas hitting store shelves, recently shared images of a canceledIron Mangame that his team was working on. According to him, this game was to be titled “The Invincible Iron Man,” and it would have apparently featured Tony in a suit inspired by theUltimate Marvelcomics of the early 2000s. X2: Wolverine’s Revenge Developer Was Working on an Iron Man Game
The project wasn’t to be though, as Edwards revealed that publisherActivision ultimately shelvedThe Invincible Iron Manwithout explanation after about five or six months. Genepool Software itself was shut down shortly afterward, leaving Edwards and his team out of work. He shared some theories about why the game was canceled in a Twitter thread, stating that it could have been due to an unproducedIron Manmovie being delayed or another developer being eyed for the project.
Whatever the reason, Genepool Software’sThe Invincible Iron Mannever saw the light of day, and theMarvel Cinematic Universe would revitalize the characterin its own way just a few years later. Kevin Edwards says that he has a demo of the game working on an Xbox emulator, and promises to reveal more footage of this canceledIron Mantitle as soon as he gets better at its controls.
