If fans thought Trevor Belmont from the firstCastlevaniaadaptation was a smart-talking hero then they should wait to meet Richter inCastlevania: Nocturne. The quippy nature must run deep in the Belmont clan although two members in this latest season seem to take things more seriously. Who they are will not be spoiled in the intro.

The point is, Richter has great, funny lines inCastlevania: Nocturne. However, he isn’t the only fast-talking character in season one. There are plenty of funny quotes from other characters to mention including Maria, Annette, Edouard, and so on.

Richter in Castlevania Nocturne

WARNING! Spoilers ahead.

8“Whatever They Are, I’m Sure They Can Die.”

Richter says thisline right before he and the others face demons for the first time in episode one. Up to this point they were used to killing vampires and vampires only. However, Richter’s words are true enough as anything that bleeds truly can die.

It was still a struggle but they were able to win the fight thanks to the assistance of Annette and Edouard. That’s where the episode ends, leaving things open if Annette and Edouard know more about this supposed dark savior of the vampire race.

Annette talking to Vaublanc in Castlevania Nocturne

7“The Sun Is Rising, Devouring The Darkness, It Always Does.”

This line was said by Annette to Vaublanc in episode five. Vaublanc is the vampire who killed her mother and put her through a personal hell of slavery. At long last, she is able to get revenge for herself and her mother after she cages Vaublanc in a pile of steel crosses.

Vaublanc is adamant about darknesscoming from hellto engulf everything which is when Annette retorts with this quote. While darkness is ever looming, no one can escape the sun’s power which is a metaphor for good vs. evil.

Juste in Castlevania Nocturne

6“I Forgot How Heavy That Thing Is.”

This is another great quote from episode five and it wassaid by Juste. This was just after he took Richter’s whip to slay a vampire that stormed the bar they were eating at. He is the grandfather of Richter and the protagonist ofCastlevania: Harmony of Dissonance, which was the second Metroidvania entry on the Game Boy Advance.

Juste left the vampire slaying game after his two friends, Maxim and Lydie, died in the line of duty. Richter’s mom, Julia, always told him that his grandfather was dead so this was quite a shock for Richter.

Drolta in Castlevania Nocturne

5“I Told You To Bow.”

This is a quote from Drolta in episode seven ofCastlevania: Nocturne. It’s when Olrox first meets Erzsebet upon herarrival in France. Drolta tells Olrox to bow once and he gives a tiny nod to Erzsebet instead. Eventually, Drolta is more forceful with her command, and the resentment in Olrox’s eyes as he bows low to Erzsebet is like fire.

It’s unknown what Olrox’s intentions are in season one as he does help Richter and the others out. He kills innocent people though, so he isn’t a good vampire like Alucard. The mysteries will build until the next season arrives, hopefully next year.

Annette in Castlevania Nocturne

Also in episode seven, Annette and Richter share a touching moment. Richter gets back from his awakening with Juste which is when he lets his fears go. Annette explains to Richter that being afraid is a good thing because it means there is something to lose.

She’s implying that she doesn’t want to lose Richter and there is almost a momentwhere they kiss. For those unaware, Richter and Annette are an item inCastlevania: Rondo of Blood, but she is kidnapped early on.

Maria in Castlevania Nocturne

3“No Matter How Complicated You Make It, Evil Is Still Evil.”

Maria is quite the feisty characterinCastlevania: Nocturneas she is looking for equality among the elite and she wants to put an end to vampires. She says this line to The Abbot after he keeps justifying the crimes of the church. He thinks blood always has to be spoilt in the name of justice, even if that means killing the innocent.

This all led up to The Abbot sacrificing Maria to Erzsebet because he thought it was the right thing to do. This was in episode seven too, which is the penultimate episode before the final battle commences in episode eight.

Edouard’s demon form in Castlevania Nocturne

2“Warriors In Arms, Family In Hearts.”

This line was said by Edouard twice in the anime. The first time was good enough in the show, but the quote really hits home in episode eight. Annette fails to throw the demon forge back to hell, but Edouard, who is now a demon, calls her down with this sentiment. It’s a sad scene as she leaves Edouard for the last time in season one.

There are a lot of questions regarding Edouard’s ability to maintain humanity along with what his punishment will be for turning demons to his side but maybe these questions will be explained in season two.

Alucard in Castlevania Nocturne

1“I Hope I’m Not Too Late.”

Those who have playedCastlevania: Rondo of Bloodknow that it leads directly intoCastlevania: Symphony of the Night. Also, the star of that game, Alucard, was featured prominently in the first series based onCastlevania 3: Dracula’s Curse.

So, it seemed obvious tofans that Alucardwould appear at some point inCastlevania: Nocturneand the creators did not disappoint. He has the final line of the first season and also one of the coolest kills since he arrives to slay Drolta in a single hit. There are no words for Alucard other than badass.
