Hellboyis getting ready for his return to the big screen. Though his last movie was a resounding failure at the box office and was bashed by critics and fans alike, he is still a character with a lot of potential. The owners of his film rights know this very well, as a new feature film and reboot of the franchise is in the works.
The project will be calledHellboy: The Crooked Manand is set to adapt the miniseries of the same name written by Mike Mignola and drawn by Richard Corben. Over the course of three comics, the famous red demon has to face another being out of hell in the mountains of West Virginia. This project’s existence could result in the beginning of a new series of video games aboutHellboy, taking advantage of the new interest in the demonic antihero.

The Start Of A New Wave Of Hellboy Movies And Video Games.
Although the 2019Hellboyreboot didn’t work, cinema isn’t done with the paranormal detective. The anti-hero will return to life on the big screen with a third reboot that will try to erase the movie starring David Harbour from memory while hopefully not making fans missRon Perlman and Guillermo del Toro’s version even more. If successful, this new movie may inspire a new wave of video games based on the popular superhero.
It is hard to believe that there haven’t been more video games based onHellboy. The character seems almost perfect to star in aResident Eviltype horror/action game, or even something similar toBioShock. His abilities, such as super-strength, use of guns, and extensive knowledge of the paranorma could be easily captured in a video game. A triple-A action game that combines the action ofResident Evilwith the mysteries ofBioShock, while also adding a detective mechanic similar to theBatman Arkhamseries alongside enemies from theHellboyuniverse, is an attractive concept.
His last appearance in a videogame based on his own universe was inHellboy: The Science of Evilback in 2008. Unfortunately, the game adapted from the 2004Hellboyfilm didn’t see much success commercially or critically. This new movie, coupled with the fact thatDark HorseComics created its own gaming division a few years ago to work with outside developers and bring their IPs to gaming, could be the perfect chance for moreHellboygames. Fortunately, the ball has already started rolling on this front, as a game is in the works.
Hellboy’s New Film And Next Video Game
While it is unknown who will play the red demon on the big screen this time, it has been revealed who will direct the movie. Brian Taylor has been chosen for this fourthHellboyfilm, with his last theatrical credit dates back toGhost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance. Although Taylor’s name may not inspire confidence in some fans, the presence ofMike Mignolaas scriptwriter could lead to some good results. For the first time, theHellboycreator will have the responsibility of writing an adaptation, something that was attempted in the 2019 reboot but did not materialize.
Shooting will begin in April in Bulgaria, and the film’s production is currently in the midst of casting. According to the official synopsis, the new film is set in the 1950s, where Hellboy and a rookie B.P.R.D. agent are stranded in rural Appalachia. There they will discover a small community dominated by witches and controlled by a local demon with a disturbing connection to Hellboy’s past. This is Mr. Watkins, a vile being sent by Satan to collect souls who will become the red demon’s adversary.
While waiting to find out who will play Hellboy this time, the half-demon also has a new video game on the way, and it looks like a tribute to Mike Mignola’s work. CalledHellboy: Web of Wyrd, it is an action adventure with roguelite ingredients developed by Upstream Arcade whose story has been written by Mignola himself. It will arrive this year to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the character and will be released on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S. Though there is no telling whether thisHellboygame will be good enough to spawn a proper series, a successful movie could make the character more popular and provide a boost toWeb of Wyrd’s sales, ensuring that more games are released down the road.
