Summary

One of the best features ofBaldur’s Gate 3is its character creator, and futureDungeons and Dragonsgames may want to take some notes. The feature not only gives players so much control over the specifics of their character, but it also lets them choose between 11 different races from acrossDungeons and Dragons. These races are some of the most popular and iconic fantasy races around, but hopefully these are not the only races thatBaldur’s Gate 3fans get to use.

While Larian Studios gave players a ton of options, there are a couple ofDungeons and Dragonsraces that were left on the cutting room floor. The studio may have included the most iconic ones, but that does not mean there is no room for more. Not all these races may fitwithin theBaldur’s Gate 3setting, but more options are always a good thing, and players should be able to create whatever they desire. While it is too late to add more races at launch, future patches and DLC could run wild with the character creator.

Arakocra

It is very unlikely that Larian Studios will add the Arakocra toBaldur’s Gate 3, but there is always a chance it will surprise the fan base. These winged people originate from the Elemental Plane of Air and soar through the sky on their journeys. They look like large humanoid birds and are often called birdfolk by others. They are beautifully majestic and would be a fantastic addition to the character creator, but they do not really fitthe gameplay ofBaldur’s Gate 3. Maybe their recent appearance inDungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieveswill be enough to convince Larian to add them.

Aasimar

The Aasimar have appeared in theBaldur’s Gateseries before, but players have never been able to customize one. These angelic beings are infused with heavenly power and often bring light to the world. While they are not always nice people, they are all linked to celestials somehow and have incredible powers waiting to be unleashed. There is a chance that they doappear inBaldur’s Gate 3someday, and hopefully that day comes soon.

Bugbear

Players will have to fight many bugbearsthroughout theirBaldur’s Gate 3adventure, but they cannot play as one. While these monstrous beings are a major antagonist, players should be able to actually assume control of one at some point. They are the hulking cousins of goblins and hobgoblins, and are experts in hiding and sneaking around. They could be a fantastic customizable race as they are already all overBaldur’s Gate 3, but Larian would have to come up with a reason for why this version is friendlier than the other ones.

Firbolg

Druids and the Emerald Groveplay a major part ofBaldur’s Gate 3, but one of the coolest nature-based races has been left out of the fun. The Firbolg are the distant cousins of giants, and they are imbued with the magic of the primeval forests. They are an incredibly unique looking race that would feel entirely different from the other races the game offers, and that would make them a fantastic addition to the line-up. While there are other races that should come before Firbolgs, they should be introduced at some point.

Goblin

Goblins also play a key roleinBaldur’s Gate 3, but they have also been left out of the character creator. They are everywhere in the game world and inDungeons and Dragons, but they are one of the few iconic fantasy races that is not customizable. Just like with bugbears, players should be able to play as a goblin who is not a part of the villainous goblins they run into. It would be a fantastic addition to the roster and could be the perfect companion to the gnomes.

Baldur’s Gate 3is available now on PC, with a PS5 release on September 6 and an Xbox launch to follow.
