Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Ringsis out now on Disney plus, but it hasn’t stopped the amount of fans that are invested in this character. More news continues to come out about the movie, and fans have found out that there was concept art for the movie featuringDeadpool.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Ringsfollows the titular character in his quest to stop his father from utilizing the infamous rings in a plan that might bring the end of the world. In the movie, there was a cage fight arena where people would bet on fighters and watch them duke it out in deadly combat. There, Abomination makes a reintroduction with a much more comic-accurate look. The character hasn’t been seen since his debut inThe Incredible Hulk, but he was brought back into the Marvel Cinematic Universe battling none other than Wong.

Shared via Murphy’s Multiverse, the concept art that was released that showedDeadpoolfighting Proxima Midnight in the cage. Proxima, for those who don’t remember, was one of “the children of Thanos” who debuted inAvengers: Infinity War. Many had wondered if this was a scrapped battle scene and why they would take it out. Fortunately fans got their questions answered. Marvel’s illustrator, Andrew Kim, has said to Chatter Box Film, “Long story short, and sorry to disappoint, but there was no involvement of Deadpool or Proxima in the early going. When I was designing the fight club, my PD mentioned to me that we could see other Marvel characters fighting in the ring when we first revealed the scene.”
The artist went on to further discuss why these two specific characters were chosen. “Deadpool and Proxima were my idea to put in as I thought their dynamic fighting styles could be a perfect fit in the ring like that (you know, they don’t fly) and Deadpool’s red was a nice pop against the bluish background, so part of it was a design choice for this concept painting.” This can be good or bad news depending on how viewers look at it.
On one hand, it’s disappointing to not have seen this very coolcameo inShang-Chi. However, it can arguably much worse if the characters were intended to be in the movie only to end up being taken out of the film. Moving forward, Marvel Studios will no doubt find a proper way to introduce Deadpool into the ongoing cinematic shared universe.
It also was a good choice not to do this because it could’ve potentially distracted viewers from understanding this new character.Shang-Chi’s introductory movieis meant to be about him so it’s not ideal to put a very popular character in the movie if they’re trying to make a new character stick with fans long after the credits roll.
