Today, Bungie took part in the GCX charity stream, and among the donation incentives were weapon reveals forDestiny 2’s upcoming expansionBeyond Light. During the stream, game director Luke Smith joined in to announce the return of fan-favorite hand cannon Hawkmoon.

Destiny 2has borrowed guns from its predecessor ever since launch but to mixed fan reaction at times. It’s fun to relive old memories with favorite guns, but these returning weapons also take the place of something new.

Luke Smith stated that the team wants to strike a balance between new loot and “classics.“Destiny 2started the process of reviving classicDestinyexotic hand cannons with The Last Word duringBlack Armoryand then added Thorn in the following season. This fall, Bungie aims to complete the “holy trinity”  by adding Hawkmoon to the game.

The other two exotic hand cannons were bothmemorable quest rewards inDestiny 2and the studio seems to be continuing that trend. According to Luke Smith, Hawkmoon will have “a great path to acquire,” which suggests that the quest will feature the lore behind the weapon.Destinyfans may not be familiar with Hawkmoon’s history in the franchise, but they should be once Beyond Light launches in September.

Regarding weapon traits, Hawkmoon was defined and remembered by its key perk, Luck in the Chamber. The reprised Hawkmoon will still feature randomness but the team is going for a “bold new direction.” This means Luck in the Chamber and Holding Aces will not be present on the gun, both of which granted random damage bonuses to bullets. Moving forward, there won’t be any instances of the weaponkilling a Guardian in one shot.

Bungie has opted to move randomness away from damage and will share details closer to launch. Recently,Destiny 2has been reintroducing non-damage related perks reliant on random chance such as Clown Cartridge and Mulligan, and Hawkmoon seems to be another step to add just that much more randomness to gunfights. Hawkmoon is being playtested as we speak.

Destiny 2is available on PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
