Many players have been frustrated with bounties inDestiny 2, and Bungie is planning to make changes. Design Lead Tyson Green addressed players' concerns on the developer’s website and detailed plans for updates.
Green observes how important bounties have become as a mechanic inDestiny 2,which has led some players to see them as “mandatory chores rather than opportunities to optimize.” He outlines several potential methods for cutting back on this, including replacing Weekly Bounties to cut back on “FOMO” from players missing a week, and making it easier for players to get bounties when they want them and not just at the start of a session. Like with thebuggy fan-favorite Polaris Lance, Bungie plans to roll out some of the updates in Season 12.

Not all of the updates are planned for as soon as next season. Some mechanics, like “allowing bounties to be accessed directly from the Destination Map,” probably won’t be coming out until Season 13 or later. And the bounties aren’t the only game mechanic giving players trouble. Some players have reported an oddglitch with the exotic machine gun Heir Apparent, which isn’t exactly game-breaking but is a sign of the game not working the way the developers intended.
This isn’t the first time players have had issues with bounties. Some might recall theover-focus on bounties in Season of Dawn, and that’s not the only instance of bounties causing troubles for some players. AlthoughDestiny 2is a popular game, it’s still a game and is not without flaws and bugs. The game is still playable and enjoyable to a ton of players, enough that there’s an ongoing dialogue between the developers and the community about needed fixes.
Still,Destiny 2is in what some players might call a bit of a rough patch right now. TheGuardian Games event has caused a confusing tonal shiftand has some players questioning larger issues like the constant unbalanced weapons and the high amount of cheater bans. Yes, the game has flaws, but these flaws are too much for a significant portion of the player base.
The fact is thatDestiny 2is losing a ton of players, and updates are needed now more than ever. Bungie needs to build rapport with the players it still has, as well as enticing back those who’ve left. Bounties have been an ongoing issue in the game, and fixing them to players' satisfaction would be a definite step in the right direction.
Destiny 2is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
