It’s been an extremely busy few days for Bungie, with the recentDestiny 2showcase giving fans their firstmajor look at Lightfall and the darkness Strand subclasses, the Season of Plunder launching in the game, and the release of King’s Fall. As many know, King’s Fall was originally in the firstDestinyand features the fight against Oryx, the Taken King, and now fans get to experience it again (or for the first time) inDestiny 2.

It’s almost a given that anytime something within a franchise is revised, revisited, or adjusted, it’s going to be compared to the original. Such was the case for the recentrelease ofSaints Row, with many looking at it through the lens of one of the first four games, and the same can be said of the King’s Fall raid. In fact,Destiny 1is trending on Twitter as of this writing because fans are comparing the OG King’s Fall to theDestiny 2version. Perhaps interestingly enough, it seems some fans actually prefer theDestiny 1version.

It’s certainly a debate within theDestiny 2community right now, as several social media accounts have shared images that compare the original to the recently released one. It would seem the primary reason some fans prefer the original is because of the atmosphere, generally speaking. Some believe that theDestiny 2version adds too much color, and as such, makes it seem more cartoony compared to the original’s atmosphere. Others, of course, have punched back by saying that nearly every detail of theDestiny 2version has been improved, including graphics, lighting, color, and so on.

Some have discussed the Hive God Oryx himself, with one standout comparison made suggesting that the original version of Oryx was essentially Summoned Skull from Yu-Gi-Oh, whileDestiny 2’s Oryxwas the Toon version of Summoned Skull. Everyone has an opinion, of course, and while many may prefer the original raid, the community is clearly split on the matter.

Ultimately, that’s a good thing. There’s a lively, mostly respectful discourse taking place on Twitter about details like this, and it goes to show how much the original and sequel are loved. There’s so much discussion going on, in fact, that it’s hard to keep track of it all. Everything from the race for World First to howDestiny 2takes a basic Easter Egg from the OG King’s Falland turns it into a way to get the Touch of Malice catalyst has all seen lively responses from fans. All in all, it’s a good start to the Season of Plunder.

Destiny 2is available for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
