The new console generation is getting closer, and the hype is rising. Not just players, butcompany executives are also hyped for PS5 and Xbox Series X. EA in particular has praised the new consoles and their graphical improvements, presumably because it allows them to do more.

With new consoles come new entries in running franchises likeMadden, the latest beingMadden NFL 21. EA’s monopolized football franchise has thundered on for many years. With EA’s exclusivity license recently renewed, it is clear the franchise isn’t going anywhere in more ways than one.

The recent revealtrailer forMadden NFL 21has fans unhappy, and they’re making it known on Twitter. A lot of the anger from players comes from the game’s franchise mode, although there are complaints beyond that. Sean Graddy, the executive producer for the game, recently reached out on Twitter in response.

His speech to players said that he and his team have seen the tweets and understand players' frustration. He went on to say that his team is committed to providing updates on the game as it is made, and is working on plans to bolster franchise mode. The response is fairly vague, giving players no real information they didn’t have before and promising little that is concrete.

The reasonwhy fans are upset withMadden NFL 21to this degree is largely the lack of change in franchise mode. The mode involves managing a team or several teams, focusing on business as a player’s teams advance. The lack of advancements in the mode itself is what has players fuming. Many declare the mode feels very bare-bones overall, and that the concepts and gameplay have not changed for years. This has not been meaningfully addressed for several games, despite promises to do so from EA in the past.

It’s not just the lack of changes in franchise mode that have players angry.Madden NFL 21’s reveal trailer drew irefor putting the focus in all the wrong places. The most touted new feature was the ability to control touchdown dances, which seems insignificant. This has led fans to the conclusion that EA is putting its effort into changing or “improving” things in the game that don’t matter. It is a frustration that has been building for several iterations of theMaddenfranchise.

There have beennew features shown inMadden NFL 21’s trailer, mostly related to the field of play. These include changes to defense and offense, as well as the above-mentioned celebrations. Interestingly enough, that wasn’t well-received either. Many players were hoping for changes to the coaching and managing aspects of the franchise instead of to the field play.

Madden NFL 21releases August 28 on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
