Secret Invasionis set to be one of the biggest MCU events to hit an original Disney Plus series. Its plot is currently well under-wraps, but a new report may indicate who Emilia Clarke could be playing in Marvel Studios' television adaptation of the famed comic storyline.

Marvel’sSecret Invasionis being billedas a “Crossover Event Series” with Nick Fury at its center. The comic’s storyline involves the Skrulls, a shape-shifting race of aliens, who have infiltrated Earth’s superhuman society. Seeking to take over the planet for their Queen, Veranke, the Skrulls are eventually defeated in a grand crossover that brought together many of Earth’s mightiest heroes. Though the Skrulls have been portrayed more benevolently in the MCU as refugees rather than an intergalactic empire, it looks like the MCU’s plot is following roughly the same outline as the comics storyline, with a few alterations to account for the adaptational changes inherent to the MCU.

According toStreamr News, Clarke, whose role has yet to be disclosed, will be portraying SHIELD Agent Abigail Brand. The report (viaOne Take News) states that the officialSecret Invasionaccount over at Tenor, the gif-sharing website, uploaded a gif of Clarke’s character entitled “Its The Beginning Abigail Brand GIF.” Though it could just be a slip-up, the character has been part of the speculations for Clarke’s portrayal since her role was announced.

Quite a fewleaks have surrounded Clarke’sSecret Invasionrole, with some even claiming she will portray the Skrull Queen Veranke and others that she would be portraying an original Skrull. This is the first indication from an official account that Clarke will be portraying Abigail Brand. The character, in the comics, is a secret agent of SWORD and a mutant with an alien father. Her hair is naturally colored green because of the biology of her father’s unnamed alien race.

With mutant references ramping up in the MCU (most notably,theShe-Hulkseason finalefeatured the title character breaking the fourth wall and asking when the X-Men would be joining the franchise), Brand is a good choice of character to introduce. She is not a high-profile mutant and has fewer storylines revolving around her, so she comes with a bit less baggage than more established characters, who can be saved for later on when mutants start appearing in the films themselves.

Clarke is also a fun pick for the role. She is known in theGame of Thronesuniverse as Daenerys Targaryen, in theStar Warsuniverse as Qi’ra, and now she joins the ranks of the MCU. She has played an action-oriented role before inTerminator: Genisys, in whichshe picked up the reigns of Sarah Connor. Her addition to the MCU is sure to provide a lot of fun for fans.

Secret Invasionwill premiere on Disney Plus in early 2023.
