It can be hard for new multiplayer games to stand out in an already crowded market, but Capcom’s new third-person shooterExoprimalseems to be bringing a unique premise to help give its standing a boost. There are many gamers who would be sold on a title purely for the chance to take on a horde of ravenous dinosaurs, andExoprimalis giving them just that. Alongside the toothy antagonists, players can gun down other mutated prehistoric creatures in the PvPvE 5v5 shooter, and early glimpses of the game look fun and frenzied. However,Exoprimalmight need a bigger hook than that to keep players engaged for the long haul.

In addition to coming up against throngs of lethal creatures and navigating the challenging environments, players will take control of Exofighters as they fight a nefarious artificial intelligence named Leviathan.Exoprimalwill offer gamers a few optionswhen it comes to what type of Exofighter they want to control and what part they want to play in the five-person team, from a classic tank character to a healer in a support role. There will also be different elements for gamers to unlock or upgrade, andExoprimalwill also feature seasonal content that could explore plenty of themes, including acting as a tie-in to previous Capcom titles.

Exoprimal’s Seasonal Approach

Initial looks atExoprimalpoint to a completely whacky but potentially incredibly entertaining experience, with a time-loop element that forces theteams of Exofightersto relive the same day over and over as they battle the overwhelming numbers of dinosaurs that pour out of mysterious wormholes. The high-powered suits that characters can wear offer a range of different weaponry to test out, as well as a variety of rigs that gamers can use to give their characters different abilities to handle the threats they’ll face. There will also be a few different modes, including the Dinosaur Survival PvPvE mode and Dinosaur Cull where teams target a specific creature.

Exoprimal will be an always-online co-op gamewhere players team up to take on tasks and defeat various enemies. Capcom has also announced season passes that will feature unlockable items like cosmetics and skins for both their suits and their weapons. Seasonal post-launch content is key to keeping players engaged in a game and their attention away from similar rival titles, so this is somethingExoprimalneeds to nail. A variety of different items and skins might only keep fans intrigued for so long, but tying them to other beloved franchises could giveExoprimalan extra edge.

Exoprimal Needs An Obvious Capcom-Themed Addition

Many fans were hoping that any upcoming dinosaur-focused game in development at Capcom would be a newDino Crisistitle or perhaps a remake, butExoprimalcould still scratch that prehistoric itch. However, although the developer has confirmed thatExoprimalhas no link toDino Crisis, that doesn’t mean that elements of the deadly dinosaur survival horror can’t creep into the newer title. Not only would this be a great way to connect the upcomingExoprimalto some of Capcom’s existing titles, but it seems like an obvious match considering both properties are in the studio’s wheelhouse.

TheDino Crisisseries might not have futuristic mechs, malevolent AI, or the powerful combat abilities thatExoprimalhas, but there are still obvious parallels between the two. Fans have been calling for a resurrection of the franchise for years, andfeaturingDino CrisisinExoprimalcould be a way to draw players in and honor Capcom’s beloved series at the same time. The connection doesn’t need to necessarily be extensive and could be as straightforward as themed skins or items for players to unlock as part of a season pass. These could link to iconic enemies or even key characters like SORT agent Regina, but they could appease gamers looking for their nextDino Crisishit.

Exoprimalwill release on Jul 27, 2025, for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
