As reported by GamesRadar+,Final Fantasy 14Director Naoki Yoshida revealed in an interview that the team had been thinking of adding thePixel Remasterseries as playable games in the Gold Saucer. Square Enix fans will likely recall that the series is a collection of six games starting from the firstFinal Fantasytitle untilFinal Fantasy 6,and was just released last April 2023. According to Yoshida, they had wanted to add the collection as games in the Gold Saucer to coincide with the series' launch this year. Unfortunately, they have been unable to do so due to the remastered games being run on “middleware.”

Yoshida elaborated on the process of getting theFinal FantasyPixel Remastercollectioninto the MMORPG, sharing that they would have to create another system within the online game to play back this “middleware” so that they can run the remastered games. Obviously, this whole process is very complicated and the reason it has not been completely pursued is that the team may have other development priorities in theFinal Fantasy 14pipeline. Nevertheless, Yoshida seems to still be positive about the idea in the interview, and probably hopes they can still implement the feature in the future.

Given how fresh theannouncement is ofFinal Fantasy 14’sDawntrail, these things may just be minor nice-to-knows for the MMORPG’s player base. No doubt, their full attention is already on the next expansion, with hopes that it will continue to be as good as its predecessors.

Final Fantasy 14is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, with an Xbox Series X/S version launching in Spring 2024.
