However, one of the most exciting new features it showcased was the new dye system coming out inDawntrail. Once the expansion releases, many of the dyeable items inFinal Fantasy 14will have a second dye channel added to them, allowing players to mix and match colors to create truly unique combinations. During the last Fan Festival, the critically-acclaimed MMORPG finally shared some examples of what this will look like, with images of the artifact armor forthe Paladin fromFinal Fantasy 14: Endwalker, the Baronial set, and the Peacelover’s Shirt in their normal version, with a single dye, and withDawntrail’s second dye slot.

FF14 Dawntrail Two Dye Channel Examples

As of now, some pieces of gear can’t be dyed, but a lot of gear inFinal Fantasy 14can be colored. WhileDawntrailprobably won’t be able to add second slots to every dyeable item, the developers are trying to do so with as many as possible. This will drastically open up the color combinations available for these items, and allow players to create somefantastic glamours withFinal Fantasy 14itemsthat didn’t previously match one another.

Needless to say, fans can’t wait to get access to these second dye slots. Though obviously excited, the crowd at the Japanese Fan Festival was relatively polite and quiet. Even so, whenFinal Fantasy 14showed off these new dye slots, the crowd cheered louder than almost any other reveal at the convention, proving how excited they were about this new customization feature.

The extra dye slot inDawntrailis a part of the greater graphical update coming toFinal Fantasy 14. The expansion will breathe life into the visuals of the game, introducing new textures, shading, andplayer character models toFinal Fantasy 14for the first time in 10 years. This update will increase the minimum system requirements forFinal Fantasy 14, so PC fans should be sure to make sure their rigs can handle it beforeDawntrail.
