The Mysterious Tale of GGY

Those who playedFive Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breachmay have noticed the same three letters written atop leaderboards in nearly every cabinet of theMega Pizzaplex’s arcades: “GGY.” This player has impossibly high scores, which is the mystery that high school journalism enthusiast Tony hopes to solve in thisTales of the Pizzaplexshort story.Tony, whose penname is Tarbell, teams up with two other classmates using the names Boots and Dr. Rabbit, to find out the mysterious origin of GGY.

Tony discovers that GGY is a hacker who has modified their Play Pass to accessemployee-only locations in the Pizzaplex. He finds that GGY has also allowed other people to come into the building after hours, but while digging deeper Tony realizes that Glamrock Freddy is pursuing him throughout the Pizzaplex. His efforts unearth that GGY has hacked the animatronics to follow his orders, and that the individuals GGY allowed into the Pizzaplex were therapists who worked for Fazbear Entertainment. Each mysteriously disappeared, months after starting their positions.

Upon reporting these findings to his teammates, Dr. Rabbit makes edits to Tony’s paper by changing the character of GGY to a fairytale wizard’s apprentice who fights evil. Tony says they are unworthy of using pennames due to their lack of journalistic integrity. Greg, behind Dr. Rabbit, apologizes and offers to cheer Tony up with an after-hours trip to the Pizzaplex, confirming himself to be GGY - and it seems alsoSecurity Breach’s Gregory.

GGY’s Connections to Security Breach

Players who explored the full extent of the Pizzaplex can discover ahidden room fromFive Nights at Freddy’s Sister Locationwhere secret recordings unveil the backstory of an unseen second antagonist, Patient 46. Patient 46 is described as a child whose current actions in the Pizzaplex clash with their good-natured upbringing. Over the course of the recordings, it is revealed that Patient 46 is a master hacker causing untold damage to the Pizzaplex’s programs and animatronics. However, before any therapist digs deep enough into Patient 46’s story, they mysteriously disappear.

UsingTales of the Pizzaplex, players can connect the dots that Gregory, aka GGY, is likely the true identity of Patient 46. However, this reveal clashes withthe events ofFive Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach, in which players navigate an utterly oblivious Gregory through a Pizzaplex full of hostile animatronics. As the person who hacked the animatronics in the first place, there has to be a reason why they would turn on him later.

RUIN DLC FNAF Security Breach GGY

Vanessa and her villainous alter-ego Vannyappear throughoutSecurity Breach, but while Vanessa’s intentions are to return Gregory to his parents, Vanny’s are more nefarious. Players know that Vanny is the product of long-time series antagonist William Afton’s corruption of Vanessa through the Glitchtrap virus. Gregory and GGY likely share the same duality, with GGY produced as the product of Afton’s corruption. Prior to the events ofSecurity Breach,it appears the Glitchtrap virus was removed from Gregory and perhaps placed into Burntrap, leaving players in charge of a more terrified character.

This explanation may also solve the mystery surrounding Glamrock Freddy’s glitch in the opening cutscene, and the absence of mysterious dialogue that was featured inFive Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach’s second trailer. Upon Gregory’s release from the Glitchtrap virus, the animatronics were ordered to find him. When Glamrock Freddy - clearly controlled by GGY inTales of the Pizzaplex- searches the crowd and succeeds in locating Gregory, the conflicting order to protect GGY, but detain Gregory, leads to his malfunctioning. He boots up in safe mode, flushing both viruses from his system. This prior connection also explains why the other animatronics know his name, even though Vanessa, “safe-mode” Freddy, and Gregory struggle to find any record of his existence.

Further evidence for this theory can be found in thePlayStation February 2021 State of Playtrailer, which includes major dialogue missing from the final version. Afton’s voice describes someone who was small and weak before he made them powerful. Vanessa is also more aware of the animatronics' murderous pursuit of Gregory, vowing to escape the Pizzaplex alongside him. However, Afton declares that if they do not bring him what he wants, “…you will…both of you will burn!”

Though Vanny continues to aid Afton, the GGY persona is not present in thefinal version ofSecurity Breach.Gregory essentially wakes up in the Pizzaplex with little memory of his name and location, but knows a woman is pursuing him. However, players discover GGY’s ties to Afton and the Pizzaplex throughSecurity Breach’s collectibles and locations, namely those describing the arcade cabinets and Vanessa being hired as the head security guard. These deeper connections lead to Gregory’s being hunted by Afton and Vanny.

Gregory’s Plight in the Security Beach Ruin DLC

A DLC forFive Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach, titled Ruin, was revealed via a teaser image in May 2022. The poster features a little girl staring in the destroyed Pizzaplex’s Main Lobby, and there are various screens displaying Gregory - with one featuring the message “Help Me.” Though players had no indication of its meaning at the time, the GGY reveal suggests this new character will save Gregory from Afton’s control, possibly through the use of Balloon World arcade cabinets similar to Vanny’s freedom through the Princess Quest cabinets.

The Ruin DLC has no official release date, but theTales of the Pizzaplexseries is releasing new volumes nearly every two months in 2023, meaning players should receive further insight into the Pizzaplex’s mysteries. Recently releasedFive Nights at Freddy’s Funko Popsreveal Balloon versions of the classic animatronics, though they could just as easily be based on cut content. With the Ruin DLC set to release this year, players don’t have long to wait before the deeper connections between these long-standing mysteries reveal themselves.
