While the industry at large is looking to move forward with gaming, in terms of modern technology, higher budgets, reboots, and sequels, there are some in the community who quite like the idea of turning the clock back a few years. Take the recentfan “demake” ofBloodborne, which reimagines the 2015 gothic action RPG as a PlayStation 1 style game, not too dissimilar from the likes ofNightmare Creatures. There are others doing similar projects, and this video shows whatResident Evil 4would look like if it was a decade or so older.

In the recent clip, which was uploaded to YouTube a couple of days ago, the Rustic Games BR channel shows two and a half minutes of action from a retro-looking version ofResident Evil 4, which gives it a look that fits in more with the first three games of the series as opposed to what came after it. This version includes tank controls for Leon, fixed camera angles, and it even appears to sample the footstep sounds from the older titles.

In the video, Leon can be seen during the first encounter withResident Evil 4’s El Gigante boss. The whole thing is very reminiscent of anREgame from back in the day, before the fourth installment completely switched up the formula. Sadly, it appears as though this is just for visual demonstration purposes only, and it’s unlikely that the creator will be looking to release any kind ofRE4demake for public use.

This is also not the first time the team has made something like this. Just last month,Rustic Games showed what a demake ofDead Spacewould look like, which, again, reimagined the game as a PSX-style entry with all the classic survival horror trimmings. With word about the official remake ofDead Spacebeing pushed back, it’s a shame that even this fan demake won’t be made available to the public. Similar to theRE4video, it also seems to be just a demo.

Asone of the bestResident Evilgames across the whole series, number four is beloved among the fan base. There are hopes that a remake is in the pipeline, and with the recent VR port of the game being received well, it shows that this 17-year-old title is still making waves in the industry. It would be interesting to see how a full demake would stack up against a complete modern day remaster.

AResident Evil 4remake is rumored to be in development.
