Demonspossessing or joining with mortals is nothing new as a premise in both games and other media. But recent anime likeChainsaw Manhas breathed new life into this tried and tested trope. Because it turns out, a deal with the devil is still one of the most fun and busted ways to become overpowered; besides, it’s fair trade, sort of.

Whether by trading their souls or by being a little too open to possibilities, quite a number of characters invideo games have surrendered their bodies(and sometimes their minds)to demonic entities. Some of them were lucky enough to become protagonists, while others became cannon fodder enemies. The followingcharacters are the best “demon”-strations of the trope.
8Jackie (The Darkness)
Jackie Estacado fromThe Darknessgames fused with the old secret family demon or spirit after his uncle assassinated him due to organized crime paranoia. The demonic entity, called The Darkness, saved him and promised him vengeance by granting him some nifty powers. It’s asimilartale to antiheroes such asVenomand other reluctant and vengeful superhumans.
Thus,The Darknessexplores this notion a lot through Jackie’s grief and loss. Because it wasn’t enough that the mafia killed him, they also kidnapped his girlfriend. At its core,The Darknessis a tale of revenge as players guide Jackie and his newfound demonic friend down a path strewn with dead and mangled bodies.

7Sareth (Dark Messiah Of Might And Magic)
Sareth’sliaison with demonsis different compared to the rest. His father is an absentee dark lord imprisoned somewhere, so the old man sent hissuccubus demon named Xanato his son Sareth. The goal was to get Sareth to free the dark lord through Xana’s directions since she wasembedded into Sareth’s consciousness.

Thankfully, Xana had bigger plans for Sareth and wanted him to take over his dad’s job instead of freeing the old man. To that end, Xana offers more than powers to Sareth since she became his first counsel and even his lover— eventually after she re-assumes her own body. As far as demonic fusions go, this one is unique and quite endearing.
6Lohse (Divinity: Original Sin 2)
Lohse the Bard is one of the companions or pre-set characters inDivinity: Original Sin 2and her plight is quite a Herculean one. Her backstory involvesgetting possessedbyAdramahlihk, anarchdemonwho’s after the power of the Divinity, hence her possession of Lohse.
From time to time,Lohse will black outand do something strange and scary, much like how most women in exorcisms behave. Still, Lohse’s willpower is strong, and she often manages to regain control of her will and body. In fact, Adramahlihk is more of a parasite within her; the game even involves a long quest to rid Lohse of such a predicament.

5The Prince (Prince Of Persia: The Two Thrones)
The usually nameless Prince from thePrince of Persiagames has been through a lot, but his struggle was likely at its height during thePrince of Persia: The Two Thronesgame. In this title, he developed an evil alter ego unimaginatively namedDark Princeafter toying too much with the Sands of Time and after his tussles with the time travel warden, the Dahaka.

Dark Prince is thenegative impulses of the Princemade manifest within him, and it regularly bugs him in a tug-of-war for the host’s sanity and morality. At the same time, the Prince does tap on the Dark Prince’s powers in order to survive deadly encounters. In the end, the two of them were forced to battle it out in a symbolic final fight.
4Arthas Menethil (Warcraft Games)
Speaking of corrupted princes, Arthas Menethil from theWarcraftmythos was once a prominent successor to the human Alliance kingdoms; that is until the demonic powers of the Dreadlords and the Lich King lured him. Through the Lich King’s blade,Frostmourne, Arthas became the former’s champion.
It’s also worth noting that theFrostmourne was the demonic Burning Legion’s invention, technically making Arthas' servitude with the Lich King a demonic fusion. By the end of theFrozen Thronestoryline, Arthas became powerful enough to assume the Lich King’s crown and thereforefuse with the Lich Kinghimself, becoming one with him in the process.

3The Wanderer (Diablo Games)
Speaking of becomingone with demonic entitiesand machinations, theDiablogames have no shortage of such events. The most notable one took place by the end of the firstDiablogame after the Warrior class and character plunged the evil Soulstone into his forehead to presumablyimprison Diablo.

That succeeded for a short time;Diablo shortly corrupted the Warrior, andhe eventually became theWanderer, or the next host of the Lord of Terror. It was a one-sided demonic fusion, of course, but the Wanderer somehow managed to stave off corruption; he even retained his human shell for an incredible amount of time before finally transforming into Diablo’sfull demon form.
2Followers Of Chaos (Warhammer Fantasy Games)
There are so many demonic possessed beings to mention inWarhammerlore, but the most accomplished among them were theEverchosencandidates inWarhammer Fantasy. The best and most successful one wasArchaonthe Everchosen both in appearance and canon lore.
Prior to Archaon, there wasBe’lakor, his father, who became a fully-fledged daemon prince after winning the favor of the Chaos Gods. Beneath them, there are also countless humans who have been chosen by the four Chaos Gods to represent their twisted ideals. Some of them became bloodthirsty fighters while others were turned into grotesque abominations.

The best ones are usually turned into greater daemons, who are just a couple of steps away from godhood.
1Most Enemies In Doom Games
Like demon-human fusion inWarhammerlore, most hybrids in theDoomgames are alsocrude and unholy outcomesof the union.Heck, inDoom, they are even moreof an eyesore due to theircyber prosthetics, as if most of them underwent unfinished and improvised transformations into demons.
Sadly, for demonic possessee inDoomgames, it’s a one-sided affair. Most humans who succumb to demonic fusion lose their minds and become vandalisms of humanity’s organic form. Presumably, the few who live long enough to survive the Doom Slayer’s wrath are promoted into bosses or into more muscular forms though the pay rate is probably still mediocre despite the promotion.
