This hilarious recasting is just the latest in a series of creative mods for the popular action-adventure game, which let players step into the shoes of everyone from Homer Simpson to footballerKylian Mbappe inGod of War.
God of Wartook the gaming landscape by storm when it was released for the PlayStation 4 in 2018. Featuring an older and wiser (but still brusque and burly) Kratos battling through the Nine Realms of Norse mythology with his son Atreus by his side, the game was widely praised for bringing a more mature and emotionally resonant storyline to the aging franchise. The immense success ofGod of Warled to a PC port of the game being released in 2022, with the PlayStation-exclusive sequelGod of War Ragnarokarriving several months later. In an amusing new video shared on the r/GodofWar subreddit, user Winter-Flow showed off a mod for the PC release ofGod of Warthat replaces Kratos withDoom’s legendary Doom Slayer. Seemingly eager for a change of pace after years spent battling the hordes of Hell, the video shows the Doom Slayer enthusiastically engaging one ofGod of War’s Valkyries in a brutal bout of combat. Kitted out in his iconic armor with the imposing demonic Crucible on his back, the Doom Slayer quickly dispatches the Valkyrie and makes defeating one of the game’s most challenging enemies look like a walk in the park.
Redditors responding to the video were impressed by the creative mod, with one player joking that the game should be rechristened “God of Doom.” Other commenters were eager to add the Doom Slayer to their copy ofGod of War, with Winter-Flow helpfully providing information about the mod for players interested in trying it out for themselves. This unique mod doesn’t mark the first time that id Software’s power-armored protagonist has shown up in the Nine Realms, either. Another PC mod saw the Doom Slayer fighting againstHalo’sMaster Chief inGod of War’s opening cutscenes.
This unique mash-up of two of gaming’s most powerful protagonists is sure to elicit a smile from fans of both franchises. And while the sight of the armor-clad Doom Slayer stomping through the snow-shrouded peaks of Midgard is sure to elicit fear in the hearts of the game’s enemies, it’s still decidedly less disturbing than seeingKratos without his beard.
