God of War Ragnarokhas a heavy focus on character progression throughthe lens of a mature Kratoswho has let go of his past but continues to reflect on the cruel decisions he has made throughout his life. A post to Reddit highlights the inner dialogue Kratos has inGod of WarRagnarok. In an online post to Reddit, MrNovas shared an image from the game of a journal entry players receive after completing one of the Mimir side missions inGod of War Ragnarok. The entry details Kratos' thoughts as he reflects on the cruel actions of Mimir and compares them to his previous actions towards the boat captain fromGod of War.
Other fans in the comments confirmed the original poster’s thoughts on the journal. Several of the comments mentioned the cruelty Kratos showed in his approach of the captain. In the firstGod of Wargame, the captain is swallowed by the iconic Hydra boss. After Kratos slays the Hydra, he opens the mouth of the beast and is greeted by the boat captain. Instead of saving the captain, Kratos kicks the captain down the belly of the beast to retrieve a pair of keys instead. Kratos runs into the captain again during his journey through the Underworld. Here, Kratos kicks the captain to his doom in the depths of the Underworld. The character has become a running gag since thePS2 era of the games.
This journal entry and the side mission it is attached to is part of the reasonGod of War Ragnarokis such a great game. So much of the identity of the series is explored in this game and it feels like the game addresses or pulls from every piece of lore from the series.
