Many have argued that the firstHadeshas the perfect blend of action and plot, and it’s hard to disagree. While a plethora of colorful character interactions and pages of witty dialogue are awaiting those who want it,Hadesdoesn’t force it upon players, and it’s incredibly easy to just pick up and enjoy the game without knowing all the intricate mythological roots tying each character together. All players need to know is that they’re controllingZagreus, Hades' son, who longs to escape the Underworld and see the rest of the world. It’s a testament to just how greatHades' story is that fans are longing to see Zagreus return inHades 2, and the perfect role could already be clear.
Hades 2is set to be a direct continuation of the events of the first game, albeit from a different perspective. Rather than letting them control Zagreus again,Hades 2will see players take on the role ofMelinoe, Zagreus' half-sister and fellow child of Hades. While Zagreus isn’t taking the spotlight this time around, it’s fairly likely that fans will get to see him during the sequel, perhaps taking on the role of ruler of the Underworld in his father’s stead.

Hades 2 Could See Zagreus Running the Underworld
So far, just one trailer has been released forHades 2, and it doesn’t give away too much in regard to the game’s plot. As mentioned up top, players will take control of Melinoe, who is currently being trained by the goddess of witchcraft Hecate alongsidefellow mythological figure Nemesis. Melinoe’s training comes to an abrupt end when Chronos, the Titan father of Hades, Zeus, and many other Olympians breaks free from his Underworld prison. Chronos is now presumed to be marching toward Olympus, where he plans to get revenge on his children.
One interesting detail that Supergiant has mentioned is thatChronos may have captured Hadesduring his initial escape. If that’s the case, then the Underworld would be left without a ruler, and it could be down to Zagreus to pick up the crown after his father’s disappearance. Zagreus will almost definitely appear in some form inHades 2, with the character being one of the most memorable protagonists in recent years, and it makes sense that players would run into him as the stand-in leader for the Underworld. It also seems likely that Zagreus would charge Melinoe with hunting down Chronos and stopping him before he reaches Olympus, just like he would have done if he didn’t need to take control of his father’s kingdom.
Seeing Zagreus sit on the throne of the Underworld would also be an interesting direction to take his character in. The entirety ofthe firstHadesfollows Zagreus as he attempts to break free from the constraints of his home and his father. After finally defeating Hades, Zagreus steps foot into the outside world, but he quickly learns that, like his father, he’s been cursed to remain in the Underworld forever, and leaving it for too long would kill him. But it’s not all bad news, as Zagreus manages to reunite with his long-lost mother, Persephone, and convinces her to return home.
Upon arriving back in the House of Hades, Persephone reunites with her husband, and Hades expresses a newfound sense of respect for his son. Seeing his talent and determination clearly now, Hades tasks Zagreus with continuing to try to escape the Underworld in an attempt to test its defenses and spot any weaknesses. Though their relationship hasn’t been fixed completely, it marks a big step forward for the father and son. Seeing Zagreus sit on his father’s throne, taking control of the Underworld as opposed to trying to escape from it, would feel like a natural way to continue Zagreus' character arc inHades 2.
