One very unfortunateOverwatch 2player gets the average support player experience in full just moments after leaving the doors of the spawn room in order to heal the rest of the team. As anysupport hero main will know, the healers will always get the hardest job on the team inOverwatch 2- especially when matchmaking in a lobby without friends to help protect them.
One of the many significant changes brought to Blizzard’s popular hero shooter with the launch ofOverwatch 2was the transition to 5-player teams, bringing about the era of 5v5 battles instead of the previous 6v6 setting that manyOverwatch 2veterans are accustomed to. As a result of the lobby size change, standard role queue matches now result in teams consisting of 2 damage heroes, 2 support heroes, and only 1 tank. While tank heroes did receive a number of buffs across the board as a result of this change, the lack of a second tank makes a team’s support heroes much more vulnerable in many situations.

Consequently,support players inOverwatch 2have found their job to be a lot harder now. The “support experience” has become something of a meme within the game’s community, and is perhaps best summarized by this clip shared by a fan on Reddit. It shows a player rolling out of spawn as Lucio, only to be instantly killed by what is presumably a stray railgun shot from an enemy Sojourn just seconds after respawning. While the unfortunate incident realistically couldn’t have been prevented by the player’s teammates, simply dying so quickly into the fight illustrates what players consider to be the average support experience.
While being eliminated nearly immediately out of spawn isn’t too uncommon when the enemy team has a hero such as Widowmaker,Sojourn herself has been a focus of intense criticism since her introduction inOverwatch 2. Her ability to consistently take down targets practically instantly has caused many to consider her too overpowered, with much of the community urging Blizzard to nerf the hero.
While theOverwatch 2developers have announced plans to nerf several heroes in an upcoming patch, players expect it to provide little benefit to support players specifically. In fact, many of the announced hero tweaks have been received poorly by the community,with Blizzard’s plans to nerf Genji being a topic of particular controversyamong fans. Since matchmade teammates often pay little mind to protecting their healers, it’s probably for the best that support mains try to queue into matches with a trusted tank-maining friend instead.
