While Warner Bros. and Avalanche have confirmed there would be no paid DLC, they did say free content drops could come toHogwarts Legacyin the future. Despite very valid criticisms and controversy surrounding it,Hogwarts Legacymanaged to sell incredibly well during its initial launch period, with recent reports even suggesting thatHogwarts Legacy’s sales were 256% higher than expected. And where there’s money, there’s usually a company ready to wring it for all it’s worth, and that usually means some DLC in the gaming industry.

Hogwarts Legacyhas countless opportunities for future DLC. The Wizarding World is a vast one, and thoughHogwarts Legacydid a remarkable job of realizing Hogwarts Castleand its surrounding highlands, it still only scratches the surface of the universe. While some fans want potentialHogwarts LegacyDLC to focus more on school life or show more iconic locations from the movies and books, the best course of action might be hiding in plain sight, andHorizon Forbidden West’s upcomingBurning ShoresDLC might pave the way forward.

Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores' Waterwing Should Inspire a Hogwarts Legacy Mount

Horizon Forbidden West’s Burning Shores DLC sees Aloy travel to the post-apocalyptic version of L.A. It gives players a few more tools to aid them during this new adventure, including a brand-new mount called the Waterwing. At the end ofHorizon Forbidden West’s main story, players will unlock a mount called the Sunwing, a robotic bird/Pteranodon that Aloy can fly across the map.Burning Shores' Waterwing seems to function quite similarly, though it has one major new feature: it can go underwater.

By just holding down the movement stick, players can seamlessly transition from air to underwater inHorizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores, with the Waterwing carrying Aloy on its back far beneath the surface. It’s a real highlight of the entireBurning ShoresDLC, granting players even more freedom in how they interact withHorizon’s compelling world, and thenBurning Shores' Waterwingcould pave the way for futureHogwarts LegacyDLC.

InHarry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, there’s a lengthy sequence dedicated to underwater exploration. In thesecond Triwizard Tournament trial, Harry and the rest of the champions are tasked with rescuing a loved one from the Merpeople who lurk beneath the Black Lake that surrounds Hogwarts Castle. The big challenge for Harry is actually finding a way to breathe underwater for the lengthy duration of the trial. In the end, Harry uses Gillyweed, Fleur and Cedric both use a breathing charm, and Viktor Krum transfigures his upper half into a shark. This all already sets a nice groundwork for potentialHogwarts LegacyDLC.

During this sequence inGoblet of Fire, audiences are shown that the Merpeople have a whole civilization in the murky depths of the Black Lake, complete with ancient ruins and plenty of hostile wildlife. This naturally lends itself well toHogwarts Legacy’s gameplay, and a DLC that tasks players with exploring these depths could be a truly unique and interesting opportunity. And to make this DLC all the more impressive,Hogwarts Legacycould add a brand new mount to the game inspired byHorizon Forbidden West’s Waterwing, allowing the player to seamlessly transition between the surface world and the watery depth of the Black Lake at will.

Hogwarts Legacyis out now for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X with PS4 and Xbox One versions coming May 5 and a Switch port dropping July 25.
