Hunter x Hunterhas been going strong ever since its long-awaited return last month with chapter 391 of the manga, following the break in November 2018. Written and illustrated by Yoshihiro Togashi, the manga is beloved worldwide for its amazing story and beloved cast of characters.

The story ofHunter x Huntercontinues in the Succession Contest arc with the Kakin Family members competing to claim the throne through a contest that will only leave one standing. The last few chapters had little mention of the royals until 394, and instead, started throwing more focus on the three major Mafia families of the Kakin Empire, notably, Heil-Ly, Xi-Yu, and Cha-R.With Hisoka stepping out againto go to Deck 1 of the Black Whale andthe Phantom Troupe targeting the Heil-Ly, this chapter focuses more on a set of newly introduced characters.
Hunter x Hunter 394: The Trap set by Heil-ly
InHunter x Hunter393, the underbosses of Xi-Yu and Cha-R, Hinrigh Biganduffno and Wang, were led by an officer to what he claimed to be the entrance to the base of Heil-Ly – the middle first-class chamber. Inside the room, however, they were met with an old man. Seeming suspicious, Hinrigh threatened him with his knife.
Hunter x Hunterchapter 394 expectedly picked up right from where the last one left off and continued the encounter. With the threat of the old man established, the present individuals stay outside the room as they highly suspect something is up with it. Hinrigh was seen throwing a knife at the old man’s leg after he tried finding a way to escape by pretending to need the bathroom. Surprisingly, however, after getting stabbed, the old man’s body seemingly evaporated. This was perhaps not his real body, as Hinrigh points out that he did not bleed after getting stabbed. This could perhaps be one of Heil-Ly’s underlings' nen abilities.
After the ordeal, Wang mentions to Hinrigh that they should simplyleave Heil-Ly to the Phantom Troupe, seeing as this would make the job easier for them and cause fewer casualties. Then, in due time, they could deal with the Troupe by unleashing Hisoka after them, now that they found him and have him currently sitting in Level 1 of the Black Whale as a part of their deal with him. While they’re discussing this, a short individual, Tassi, went to the room to retrieve Hinrigh’s knife. When he stepped in, however, he vanished, confirming this is a trap by Heil-Ly. The moment Tassi was teleported, he is slaughtered by a Heil-Ly member, which allowed him to reach level 21 and gave him access to nen abilities.
Hunter x Hunter 394: Morena’s plan
Following Tassi’s killing in Heil-Ly’s hideout, the chapter then went on to show the characters' ambition. As it looks like, most of them plan to reach level 21 as that’s what seemsto unlock their nen abilities,thanks to Morena’s own nen ability that allows them to level up based on who they target and kill.

Following Morena Prudo’s betrayal of the Fourth Prince Tserriednich Hui Guo Rou, she fully expects him to retaliate one way or another. However, due to the Succession battle, it’d be hard for her to predict his movements, so to remedy that, she plans to kidnap and recruit one of Tserriednich’s personal soldiers. By infecting one of them, she’d certainly get an edge over. In the meantime, Hinrigh returned to the fountain where he left the cat camera to review its footage.
Hunter x Hunter 394: The fourth Prince’s friends
Hunter x Hunter394 saw the focus taken away from Morena, and the readers being taken to deck 3 to some soldiers who just discovered a body of a member they assume to belong to Cha-R. One of the soldiers points out that they have to treat Heil-Ly soldiers as civilians since the mafia family has never submitted a members list, meaning a killing of a Heil-Ly member could be counted as a mafia attack on a citizen, causing trouble to Xi-Yu and Cha-R.
Not wanting the situation to escalate to that point, it is imperative now more than ever to capture Morena. The soldiers theorized that Tserriednich hasn’t set up to capture and punish Morena due to him being distracted by his new nen powers. It’s interesting to note that this soldier, Otocin, uses a nickname for prince Tserriednich, calling him “Tserried” or “Tserri”.
It is revealed that the police, probably, willingly left that body “unfound” for a few days as they attempt to sweep under the rug any conflicts related to the mafia. However, the worrying part isthat if the Hunter Associationgets involved, they will probably question the Kakin Empire’s investigation.Hunter x Hunter394 ended on a shocking note when the soldiers were revealed to be friends of the prince, or former friends, at the very least. They decide to avoid Morena as they acknowledge her danger, and their goal is to try and learn more about nen that is spreading throughout the level 1 of the Black Whale.Hunter x Hunteris getting intense and the plot surrounding the mafia families is certainly getting more than interesting.
