Summary
Just because someone writes manga does not mean they are not a manga fan themselves, and this week, one mangaka was so affected by another story that they put their own on hiatus. That’s right;a manga has gone on hiatusbecause the writer of it was so shocked by the most recent chapter of another manga! The manga going on hiatus is calledFly Me to the Moon, and the one with the shock factor is none other thanJujutsu Kaisen.
Fly Me to the Moonis regularly published in Shogakukan’s magazineWeekly Shonen Sunday, and has been since February 2018. It is written by Kenjirou Hata, and is currently 15 books long.Fly Me to the Moonfollows a young man named Nasa, who has feltconnected to spacewhether he likes it or not thanks to his name. But when he meets a mysterious girl named Tsukasa, he gets more than he bargained for - she is determined to marry him. But there is something strange about her; is she an alien, a moon goddess, or something else entirely?

Fly Me to the Moonhas an anime adaptation that aired in October 2020 and ran for 12 episodes. It was popular enough that it also had an English dub that streamed onCrunchyroll. The second season of the anime aired just this past April, and also aired simultaneously on Crunchyroll, too.
The manga chapters forFly Me to the Moonhave been releasing consistently, but that is going to stop for a little while. In the latest episode ofWeekly Shonen Sunday, Issue 46 for this year, Kata announced that he would be taking a hiatus until the magazine’s 50th issue. That is still four issues away. The culprit is Chapter 236 ofJujutsu Kaisen, the most recent chapter.
Jujutsu Kaisenisone of the most popular anime and mangain the world right now, and plenty of people read that last chapter. Kata is not alone in his shock, as many fans have taken to the internet to express their own shock and disbelief. Without spoiling too much, fans have gone so far as to build shrines over a particular event that happened.
And apparently, that chapter affected more than just the average otaku. It affected Kenjirou Hata as well. Fans ofFly Me to the Moonare going to have to wait a little while for him to get over his shock and return to working on his own manga before they can read the next chapter it looks like. We definitely respect Hata’s honesty in his reason for the four-issue hiatus, and love to hear about a mangakawho is an otaku himselfand just as heavily affected by the stories as we are.
