Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele are back together as they collaborate with animated director Henry Selick in his newNetflixfilmWendell and Wild.

Unlike their previous collaborations, Key and Peele will take a demonic form in Selick’s newNetflixfilmWendell and Wild. The comedic pair have previously collaborated on animated projects includingToy Story 4, but they are best known for their collaboration on their comedy showKey and Peele.

The teaser shows Wendell and Wild trapped inside a boombox playing rock music. Both demons are seen wearing blue and white striped jail attire, proving they aren’tconfined to the boomboxby choice. Wild impresses Wendell with a revitalizing trick as he uses a white cream to bring a crushed insect back to life. The teaser exits the inside of the boombox, allowing the background imagery of skulls, books, mushrooms, and various forms of taxidermy to be seen. The teaser ends by flashing an ominous warning to “Keep An Eye On Katsboombox.com.”

The link takes viewers to Kat’s Punk Playlist, featuring punk music from Sate, Bad Brains, Nafets, Big Joanie, Death, and more. The description warns listeners not to mind “the occasional demonic possessionof her Cyclops boombox.” The spotlighted tunes will likely be heard throughout the animated film as a part of its soundtrack. Tapping into each song’s lyrics may give more insight into the film.Wendell and Wild’spremise will follow the two demons as they try to defeat their arch-nemesis Sister Helly and two goth teens, Kat and Raoul.

To create the film, Selick teamed with Peele and Clay McLeod Chapman to write the screenplay. Peele has already made a name for himself as a haunting writer after his debut filmGet Outwon an Academy Award. He followed that by writingUsand contributing to the latestCandymanadaptation. Selick is also responsible for some of the most beloved Halloween movies. In 1993, Selick directedThe Nightmare Before Christmasand has also directedJames and the Giant PeachandCoraline.Wendell and Wildwill be Selick’s first film following the completion ofCoralinein 2009.

Tying in the religious aspectsWendell and Wildappear to deal with, the animated film begins to include some of the most infamous horror themes. WhileWendell and Wild’sthirty-second teaser may not have revealed much, the accompanied link may offer a few hints beforean official Netflix trailer is released. With Peele and Selick’s minds involved in addition to Key’s extensive animated work, the eerie animated film has the makings to be a success.

Wendell and Wildwill debut on Netflix in 2022.
