One ofCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’sless-than-beloved multiplayer maps is not showing up as much for players following the recent Season 2 update. There are a number of maps in the multiplayer component ofCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2that the community has not been fond of, voicing their grievances online. However, the map thatCODplayers undoubtedly hate the most is Border Crossing.
As the map’s title suggests, the environment consists of an abandoned border crossing, complete with empty kiosks and a plethora of abandoned cars. The reasons that this map is so ubiquitously hated range from the seemingly random deaths which can occur due to one of the abandoned cars exploding out of nowhere, to the fact that the fundamental design elements of the map consists of nothing more than a narrow corridor where certain death constantly awaits. The map has also been accused ofdragging downCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’smultiplayeras a whole.

SinceModern Warfare 2saw a massive update take placeearlier in the month, players have reported seeing less of this map on various forums and have been thankful for the fact that Infinity Ward is apparently listening to its player base. Some have posited the theory that the algorithm may have been tweaked by the game’s programmers in order to cause the controversial map to appear less frequently.
Although there have been a number ofnew maps added through the Season 2 update, it is important to note that the Border Crossing map has not been replaced entirely and is still very much a part of the game’s lineup of battle environments. While the community’s requests to get the map removed entirely from the equation have not been carried out, making the appearance of the map sparser in the map rotation will likely pacify a lot of the disgruntled players calling for its removal, at least in the meantime.
The Season 2 update went live on February 15 and players have been enjoying the majority of changes that it implemented in the game, with a few exceptions. At the time of writing, neither Activision nor Infinity Ward have commented to confirm that Border Crossing will indeed be appearing less frequently in the game going forward. There is still every possibility that the reason players are seeing less of the loathed environment is due to the plethora of new Season 2 maps added into the game. Regardless, the reduction in Border Crossing’s frequency seems to have gone down well. Let’s just hope that it isn’t due to a bug that will get patched at a later date.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2is out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
