There are plenty of standout and heart-string-pulling moments across all seasons that build up to a climactic sense of closure in series 3 for the most part. 10Bode Discovers The Ghost Key
In series 1, episode 3, Bode finds the ghost key and flies around the grounds of Keyhouse in glee. It’s a magical moment that showcasesthe joy of flight, as we see similarly in other franchises, like when Harry soars across Hogwarts on Buckbeak in the movieHarry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. It’s also poignant when Bode meets his ancestor Chamberlain in the graveyard.
In series 3, Bode returns as a ghost when he becomes trapped outside his body and learns how to control the movement of garden birds with the help of Sam, which puts a fun spin on the possible mysterious origins of murmurations.
9The Creepy Mannequins In Eden’s Head
In series 2, episode 5, audiences get an insight into a demon’s mind for the first and only time, when Eden and Scot literally explore the inner workings of Eden’s head. It’s much worse than what Kinsey imagines, with a standard, somewhat superficial shopping mall interior concealing bottles of Eden’s murderous memories, as a perfect reflection of what the demon ruse in the show is. That is to say, attaching and concealing itself to a human host and appearing normal from the outside.
However, it’s not long before Eden’s subconscious starts to suspect foul play, and her internal defenses kick in when a group of creepy shopmannequins come to lifeand attack Eden and Scot in a fun and nail-biting experience.
8Kinsey And Gabe Use The Music Box Key On Eden
In season 1, episode 5, Eden being a bully has consequences when Kinsey uses the music box keyto seek revengeon her, with Scot and Gabe joining in. Although Scot, as the voice of wisdom, rightly points out their own bad behavior. It’s one of the funniest scenes in the series as Eden, with no control of her body, climbs, swims, and snow-angels over a table and squeezes mayonnaise and a drink over herself.
When Eden turns into a demon, she also seems to run out of luck and gets temporarily trapped inside a glass and eventually thrown down a well by Captain Gideon.
7The Sam Showdown
In season 1, episode 7, we see Sam return in a dramatic showdown with the Lockes as he captures them in their own home in a harrowing encounter, and viewers get to learn more about his family origins, backstory, and connection to Dodge.

The climactic point of the scene is when Sam understands he is manipulated and betrayed by Dodge, as he becomes trapped as a ghost when he accidentally steps through the ghost doorway, withDodge’s cruel wordsemulating just how evil a character Dodge is.
6The Gummy Bear And The Spider
Two of the most fun scenes happen in season 2, episode 3 when Bode discovers the small world key with his school friend Jamie. The key unlocks a doll-house-size version of Keyhouse that, when active, influences what happens in the real Keyhouse itself. It’s a fun moment when Jaime places a gummy bear in Bode’s room that appears giant-sized, and chaos ensues when a spider invades the dollhouse.
Both scenes are fun reminders of films likeThe BorrowersandHoney I Shrunk The Kidswith minuscule-shrunken-to-size humans dealing with larger versions of the human world. Some viewers might even compare the giant spider to what seeingwolf spiders fromGroundedmight be like in real life.
5An Angelic Element Of Surprise
In the season 2 finale, Kinsey uses the angel key for the element of surprise over Gabe, who does not expect her bold move of attack. Instead of falling to the bottom of a cliff, the angel key gifts Kinsey with a pair of glorious white wings and the ability to fly, as she soars into the air and steals the shadow key and crown from Gabe.
It’s a surprise for the audience too, who haven’t seen the key in action until this point, and Kinsey also uses the wings to enable her and Tyler to escape the crumbling cliffside, adding to the dramatic ending of season 2.
4Sam’s Redemption In Gordie’s Last Moments
Inone of the saddest scenesin the whole series, viewers witness the final moments of Gordie Shaw inside his own head in a scene that is done well in depicting what the end moments of life might look like. Sam effectively sacrifices himself as he slows Gideon down but becomes trapped under a piano as Ellie, Kinsey, and Tyler escape Gordie’s mind.

It’s one of the many acts of redemption that Sam does to attempt to redeem himself from his crimes against the Lockes, and it is a poignant, tear-inducing moment as both he and Gordie don’t survive.
3Dodge’s Surprise Return
Dodge’s surprise return in season 3 is a welcome one for many fans as Bode accidentally brings back the infamous Locke nemesis when he uses the time shift key to travel back in time to gloat. Dodge hitches a ride back with Bode to the future in a surprise twist, tricking him and getting him trapped as a ghost while stealing Bode’s body to get up to no good and search for the keys.
It’s fun seeing Bode with Dodge’s attitude that is mistaken by other characters for a pre-adolescent attitude and dissatisfaction with Nina’s new suitor Josh.
2Dodge Is Revealed As Lucas And Gabe
The season 1 big reveals are twofold in they are about the same character, as viewers firstly learn that Dodge is Lucas Caravaggio, one of the original Keepers of the Keys and friend to Rendell Locke. They later discover that Dodge is still alive in the form of Gabe in the season 1 finale.
Some viewers might have suspected foul play when Lucas mysteriously shows up as supposedly a relative of Ellie in season 1, episode 8. However, the end twist of Gabe as Dodge is much more shocking, as it means that Ellie was mistakenly thrown through the black door instead of Dodge. Both reveals are brilliant and show how cunning a character Dodge is.
1The Lockes Reunited
In the series 3 finale, before they destroy all keys in their possession, the Lockes use the time shift key totravel back in timeto visit their father Rendell. It’s a touching scene where for the first and only time, they get to talk to him about the keys and their adventures.
It’s a special moment where viewers see the Lockes reminisce and share a moment in time that, unfortunately, Rendell wouldn’t later remember. It also adds to the sense of closure of the final episode and ties up the series nicely in a heartwarming moment focused on the importance of family.
