Space Punksis the next upcoming live service looter shooter that will be soon hitting the market, developed by Polish studio Flying Wild Hog. The studio is mostly known for the reboot of theShadow Warriorseries, with the most recent entry beingShadow Warrior 3earlier this month. While it did receive mixed reviews, the title’s movement, mechanics, and incredibly chaotic gameplay were praised as some of its highlights. The upcomingSpace Punksseems to be encapsulating those elements into an isometric twin-stick shooter format.

Space Punksis described as a hybrid ofBorderlandsandDiablofrom publisher Jagex since it is a co-op action RPG with isometric gameplay. This is further bolstered with the use of a sci-fi post-apocalyptic setting and over-the-top action. It was first revealed in June 2021, with an extensive 17-minute trailer that showed off how the isometric gameplay would function, along with aBorderlands-esque comic book art style and flashy weaponry. This game has been in closed beta for the past few months, with plenty of updates given to players as the game’s development has continued. The studio has recently announced that players will be getting an open beta test next month.

Atrailer forSpace Punkswas uploaded recently via IGN that showed more of the gameplay as well as the playable characters. Duke, one of those playable characters, can be heard narrating the trailer over the flashy isometric action gameplay accompanied by a rock track. Weapons such as shotguns, dual pistols, and even a katana can be used by a variety of characters, with a variety of bright and colorful visual effects.

This trailer also announced that theEpic Games Store will be getting an open beta forSpace Punks, with it being available for free starting April 20th. With the game’s focus on cooperative play, players can team up with their friends to hunt all manner of intergalactic space creatures to find loot and weapons. Gamers can also earn in-game currency that is used to purchase cosmetics such as dance emotes as well. It should be noted that this early access period will not use any real-world money, though there are plans of cosmetic-only microtransactions in the future.

Due to the nature ofSpace Punksbeing a live service game, it will be receiving updates and content as it grows larger over time. The developers have stated that this game will also be hitting consoles later this year, though no release window has been listed for it yet.

Space Punkswill be free to play on PC via an open beta starting April 20, with a console release later this year.
