Marvel’s Midnight Suns’ marketing this past week has been exciting thanks to Deadpool taking over the game’s social media. Deadpool had teased that characters such as himself would be joiningMarvel’s Midnight Sunsin some capacity, but it was not entirely clear how until recently. Having announced himself, Storm, Venom, and lastly Morbius, Deadpool was prepared to finally reveal thatMarvel’s Midnight Sunswill be receiving post-launch DLC. This DLC is dubbed the Season Pass, and includes the four aforementioned characters.
Deadpool “leaked” each of his Season Pass companions gradually, giving fans hints that would narrow down which characters were going to be added. Once revealed,Marvel’s Midnight Sunsreleased concept art for these charactersin their gold, white, and black costumes. Morbius was the final character to be announced, though fans were excitedly quick to guess who it would be after hearing that the character was “pasty,” had seven letters in their name, and that their name started with an “M.” This response from fans now demonstrates how popular Morbius could be inMarvel’s Midnight Suns.

Marvel’s Midnight Suns is Smart to Capitalize on Morbius’ Popularity
Morbius may be a popular Marvel name for fans of comics and animated source material, but it was not until recently that the pseudo-vampire skyrocketed in terms of popularity. In particular, the movie has made a name for the character in a nearly irreparable way.Morbius’ downfall has become the epicenter for memesand mockeries made at the film’s expense.
This is technically both a bad and good thing for the character, sinceMorbiusportrayed the character in such a negative light that it is undoubtedly damaging for future installments, but also in a way where fans could rally behind it and turn it into a hysterical positive. There is a bit of grey area where the character Michael Morbius now exists, but his appearance in anything going forward will always be compared to the movie now.
Marvel’s Midnight Sunsis brave and fortunate enough to have the first non-comic iteration of Morbius since the movie, leaving it with a terrific amount of influence. Any fans ofMorbius, whether they like it ironically or unironically, may be excited to see how Firaxis and 2K depict the character. In this way,Marvel’s Midnight Sunscould represent Morbius in a wholly positive way and earn him a proper redemption.
Why Marvel’s Midnight Suns’ Morbius is a Brilliant Choice
Marvel’s Midnight Sunswould be remiss not to reference Morbius’ troubled live-action outing. That is where Deadpool comes in—being able to talk directly to the player and break the fourth wall, it would be incredible to seeMarvel’s Midnight Suns’ Deadpoolmention theMorbiusmovie in instances where Morbius is around. This could easily become a stale joke early on and should not be repetitive, but it deserves at least a single line of dialogue from Deadpool. Likewise, it will be interesting to see how Morbius interacts with characters such as Blade withinMarvel’s Midnight Suns’ Abbey.
Morbius is one of the Midnight Sons’ original team members, and while that lore is seemingly inconsequential toMarvel’s Midnight Suns’ original narrative, he is still a great choice for the roster, even if he is being added post-launch. HowMarvel’s Midnight Sunsapproaches Morbius in dialogue and friendships will be intriguing, and it has a lot of freedom in terms of its interpretation. Further, based on the concept art provided, it seems as though the character will be close to source material inspirations for his design. Morbius is only one of four exciting characters included inMarvel’s Midnight Suns’ Season Pass, but he arguably has the most to gain with regard to how fans may perceive the character.
