Moon Knightstar Oscar Isaac has recently responded to Disney’s stance on Florida’s “Don’t Say Gay Bill” - downright rejecting the policy and claiming it to be an “absolute ridiculous law.” Disney and Isaac go way back and have been working together for nearly a decade now.

Their collaborative relationship first began when Isaac landed the role as Poe Dameron in the acclaimedStar Warstrilogy as well as theResistanceanimated series. Now, Isaac is about to reunite with Disney for the highly-anticipated MCU series,Moon Knight. He stars as the character of Marc Spector, who has been dubbed as a new “type of superhero for Marvel.” Spector is a mercenary who happens to also live with dissociative identity disorder. Throughout theMarvel Studiosseries, Spector becomes the human vessel for the Egyptian moon god Khonshu and must use his powers in order to defeat the villainouscult leader Arthur Harrow.

The “Don’t Say Gay Bill” (more formally referred to as the Parental Rights In Education Bill) strictly prohibits and aims to remove a school’s ability to discuss gender identify and sexual orientation within the classroom. This bill also grants parents the right to sue any educators who do bring any awareness of LGBTQ+ related topics to their students. In a recent interview withVarietyto promoteMoon Knight, Isaac took the time to share his thoughts regardingDisney’s stance on the “Don’t Say Gay Bill.““I guess my comment would be: gay gay gay gay gay gay gay gay gay gay gay gay gayyyyyy! It’s an absolutely ridiculous law,” Isaac said. “It’s insane. It’s insanity and I hope that Disney as a company comes out as forcefully possible against this idea. It’s astounding that it even exists in this country.”

The real job and duty of an entertainer is to be able to tell other people’s stories in a way that somehow still resonates as universally human and relatable. Isaac and various other Disney' employees know this and abide by this, however, it’s more heartbreaking that this type of homophobic rhetoric is running so rampant in a children’s entertainment company - one that has the power and ability to greatly impact a child’s future moral code. Hopefully with other massive stars such as Isaac drawing greater attention to Disney’s ignorance, it will inspire further movements ofallyship for the LGBTQ+ community.
