WithFinal Kombat 2020now officially in the past, NetherRealm Studios has decided that it is time to release a newMortal Kombat 11patch for PS4 and Xbox One. DubbedMortal Kombat 11patch 1.17, this new update went live yesterday, August 03, 2025, and it contains a number of general gameplay adjustment and character-specific balance changes that may serve to shakeup the established metagame.
To start with some of the most significant general changes,Mortal Kombat 11update 1.17 has increased the “input buffer when exiting a block hit reaction from two to five frames.” This means that players should find transitioning from defense to offense a bit easier inMK11, which should serve to make fights feel slightly smoother and more fluid. The patch also adds a number of new AI options to Practice Mode, giving players some new tools to train with.

With respect to character-specific changes,Jacqui Briggs' Upgraded variationhas perhaps been hit the hardest, as her powerful Bionic Bounce ability now costs one defensive bar when directed toward or away from an opponent. Additionally, Geras has seen a slight nerf with more recovery frames being attached to missed Sand Traps and Quick Sands, and Johnny Cage’s Rising Star Amplified now consumes one offensive and one defensive bar when it misses or is blocked.
On the other side of things, a number ofMortal Kombat 11charactershave received small buffs in this recent update. These buffs include improvements to Kotal Kahn’s Heavy Blade (Back Kick) and Yeyecame Disk, upgrades to Kitana’s Royal Protection ability, and more. Players can find a comprehensive list of these changes in the fullMortal Kombat 11Version 1.17 patch notes, which are below.
While the March 10Mortal Kombat 11update may not be quite as significant as some fans had hoped for, it does make a number of adjustments for players to test while also setting the stage for the game’s next character to be released. Indeed,Spawn’sMK11release dateis now less than a week away, and perhaps his arrival, alongside the changes made with yesterday’s patch, will be enough to breathe some new life into NetherRealm’s latest fighting game.
