As spotted by DSO Gaming, Twitter user afredenucci_ recently uploaded a brief clip showing the fighters from the originalMortal Kombatgame in their signature poses. Next to each one is another version of them that’s been given a high-definition overhaul. While the 1992 release used actors that were digitally inserted into the game, the technology at the time was pretty limited, which meant the characters still resembled video game avatars. But these HD versions of each make them look a lot more realistic, though they still retain their classic looks.
Representing another soft reboot for the franchise,Mortal Kombat 1is due to release on September 19. The game is also penned as a sequel to the 11th installment that was released in 2019. It’s interesting to see thatMK’s co-creator Ed Boon is still onboard for the new entry, acting as creative director. Working alongside writer and designer John Tobias in the early days, the pair likely never suspected just how much of an impact their ultra violent fighting game would have on the industry.
Alongside this violence,Mortal Kombatis well known for its roster of characters, many of whom have become synonymous with the series over the years. Many, such as Scorpion and Sonya Blade, have been a mainstay in theMKbrand for decades, and it looks like the franchise will continue this tradition of featuring its most popular fighters.
