Reports have been mounting about unusual murders on the outskirts of Raccoon City. The city’s Special Forces division, S.T.A.R.S., sends their Bravo Team - including rookie cop member Rebecca Chambers - to investigate. On route, the team’s helicopter suffers engine trouble and is forced to make a crash landing, where they find an overturned prisoner transport vehicle. Splitting up to search the area, Rebecca discovers the Ecliptic Express, a train stopped dead on the tracks. Inside, she meets death row convict and ex-Navy lieutenant Billy Coen. Throughout the game, you will take control of both Rebecca and Billy, at times switching between both characters in order to proceed. Learning the advantages of each character is the key to solving puzzles and surviving the nightmares that lie ahead.
Part of the team fronted by Wesker that Chris and Jill also serve in, Rebecca isthe appointed medicof the team, ready to care for all their wounds and injuries with extensive knowledge of biochemistry.
Her role as a medic, and being one of the kinder members of S.T.A.R.S. makes her very selfless, especially when compared to more robust heroes that seem as though they will bag all the glory. In addition to this, Rebecca goes against her principles as an upstanding member of the police force in order to cover for Billy Coen, the escaped convict she runs into inResident Evil 0.
One of the main stars of the firstResident Evilgame, Chris is part of the lofty S.T.A.R.S. team and takes his job very seriously. He always seems to be the first to rush into danger, and while this might be reckless, a part of it is also so no one else has to, and he can be the first to come face-to-face with any dangers.
He is an extremely loyal partner to Jill Valentine, and her supposed “death” brings out a very cold and distant Chris, as he shoulders the blame for her death, always thinking of himself as the hero who must save everyone around him. Thisundying loyalty, and the fact he feels such guilt over her loss, prove him as a very selfless hero.
Sherry Birkin first appeared inResident Evil 2as but a child who was left to wander the facility alone, trying her best to hide from her father who has mutated into a monster, with her mother too busy studying the effects of the virus on her husband to care much about her daughter. Despite herneglectful parents, Sherry remains a sweet and kind girl, even warning Claire when she discovers her hiding place of the imminent danger bearing down on her.
She returns inResident Evil 6as a federal agent, tasked with investigating and stopping bioterrorism. Having seen the dangers of it first-hand, Sherry dedicates herself to this mission fully, her selfless nature earning her the respect of her partner Jake Muller.
Appearing on his first day on the job inResident Evil 2, Leon probably has the worst first shift out of anyone in existence. The city falls as zombies and other creatures roam the streets, and it is up to Leon to help save the day, along with the good-natured Claire and the aloof Ada, to an extent.
His earnest nature is fully on display even when faced with theseterrifying dangers, and his first thoughts always seem to be for the safety of others. This selfless nature even translates over to the more jaded Leon inResident Evil 4, as he is sent to find and rescue the President’s daughter. He is what every hero should be, and anyone would know their life is in good hands in the company of Leon Kennedy.

Claire first appeared in the series inResident Evil 2as the younger sister of Chris, who is searching for her older brother, believing him to be missing. This already sets her up as a selfless protagonist, as her first thoughts are for the safety of her brother rather than herself.
In fact, Claire goes on to demonstrate an extremely selfless nature throughout the game, as she becomes a guardian and protector to the young Sherry Birkin after hermother turns her back on her. She takes it upon herself to care for her and cure her of the G-Virus she contracted. Even after the events of the game, Claire continues caring about Sherry and the other characters she meets in other titles, such as Moira inRevelations 2.
Resident Evil 7introduced fans to thenew playable character Ethan Winters. Unlike past characters like Chris Redfield or Jill Valentine, Ethan had no formal combat training. He traveled to Louisiana not knowing what danger he might come face to face with, just wanting to save his wife from whatever danger she may have found herself in.
His selfless nature only furthers in the follow-up gameVillage. He explores an eerie and infested European village to attempt to find and save his infant daughter Rose despite the dangers, and on his way does his best to rescue other innocents such as Elena. The game ends on a deeply tragic note as Ethan makes the ultimate sacrifice in order to ensure his daughter is taken to safety. This one act alone makes him the most selfless character in the whole series.
