Dragon Age 4likely isn’t coming for a while yet, but there’s still plenty of ways to be involved with the franchise. For example, BioWare has recently partnered with Dark Horse comics to announceDragon Age: Dark Fortress.

The new comic stars the returning character Fenris and takes place afterthe events ofDragon Age: Inquisition. Story details are sparse, but the plot will involve Fenris teaming up with Inquisition agents to infiltrate the titular fortress.

Fans last saw Fenris inDragon Age: Blue Wraith, where he and his team foiled a plot to create an army of Red Lyrium super soldiers, and it ended on a pretty big cliffhanger, soDark Fortresswill likely continue where that series left off. What waits inside and how the new comic fits intoDragon Age’sfranchise-wide narrativehas yet to be seen, so fans will just have to be patient until the first issue drops at the end of March 2021.

Dragon Age: DarkFortressis the work of Nunzio DeFilippis, Fernando Heinz Furukawa, Michael Atiyeh, and Christina Weir. This is the same team that worked onBlue Wraith, which is a strong indicator of what to expect from the new series, and each issue will feature cover art designed by Sachin Teng, another familiar name toBlue Wraithfans.

This isn’t Fenris' first rodeo in the comics, but he’s only played the oneintegral role inDragon Age 2, not appearing in any other video game. While not unanimously beloved within the fandom, he nonetheless has a passionate following in theDragon Agecommunity, and it is not surprising that such a popular character would keep finding his way back into the series.

And fans may want to read closely, as BioWare has made of habit of using other media to foreshadow events in theDragon Agegames. For example, the novelDragon Age: The Callingintroduced important characters and concepts that appeared in theDragon Age: Origin’sAwakeningexpansion. The booksAsunderandThe Masked Empireplayed a similar role forDragon Age: Inquisition. WithDragon Age 4, or whatever BioWare ends up calling it, taking place in the Tevinter Imperium, it wouldn’t be surprising if players had to confront the fallout of whatever Fenris gets up to inDark Fortress.

This seems to bode well for anyone hoping to see Fenris return inDragon Age 4. If this comes true, however, he will likely be relegated to a cameo. After all,Fenris is dead in many people’s playthroughs.

The first issue ofDragon Age: Dark Fortressreleases on July 16, 2025.
