Hawkeyehelped introduce its fair share of new characters to the MCU, but only one of those will lead her own solo adventure next year. Marvel Studios has just confirmed with a new photo thatEcho, starring Alaqua Cox, will come to Disney Plus in 2023.
AmongMarvel Studios' incredibly large roster, Echo stands out due to both her hearing disability and her Native American descent, something that the studio definitely got right by casting Cox, herself a deaf Native American and amputee whose prosthetic leg showed up occasionally in theHawkeyeseries. Whiletypically a supporting character forDaredevil, Echo was temporarily one of the main antagonists in the Clint Barton spinoff before ultimately switching sides and facing the Kingpin in the show’s ambiguous ending.

At the moment, the studio has disclosed very few details about theEchoseries. However, it is now official that Echo will be part of a 2023 lineup that could also includeSamuel L. Jackson’sSecret Invasion,Ironheart, andSecret Wars. Although very little is still known, previous Marvel leaks suggestEchocould indeed be the next time audiences get to see Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock, a natural fit for the show, as well as the return of Vincent D’Onofrio in the MCU as Kingpin.
In Marvel Comics, Kingpin is known to survive what should be a fatal gunshot wound from his adoptive daughter Echo, though he does end up blind after the encounter, which is very much what wasteased inHawkeye’s ending.Echostarted filming in Georgia quite recently and is expected to be finalized come September. In the new photo, Cox seems to be sporting a slightly different look with a bit more color and her hair being styled with more of a hard middle part.
Echo’s costume in the comics features a white handprint that covers a large part of her face and acts as a symbol for the momenther father died after Kingpin commissioned his assassination. Echo’s on-screen dad, played by Zahn McClarnon, is confirmed to return, meaning the show is bound to feature at least a few flashback scenes with the character looking back at happier times.
Nevertheless, Echo is still a new character and what may draw more Marvel fans to watch the spinoff may actually be the potential storylines that could be explored through her eyes with Daredevil and Kingpin, especially now that the MCU had to find a place for the two beloved actors and their respective rolesfrom Netflix’s Marvel hit.
