Developed by the makers of theNickelodeon Kart Racersseries at Bamtang Games,DreamWorks All-Star Kart Racingwas originally revealed in July. Much like its name implies, the game combines arcade racing gameplay with iconic characters from some of DreamWorks' most popular franchises.
Ahead of its Friday debut,DreamWorks All-Star Kart Racingwas treated to a new launch trailer. The 90-second video showcases many of the game’s tracks, including Shrek’s Swamp, Dragon’s Keep, Dark Forest, and San Ricardo. It also offers a glimpse at some of the racer’s playable characters, such as Shrek, Po, and Theodore Templeton. TheShrekseries—paired with itsPuss in Bootsspin-off—is by far the most represented franchise inDreamWorks All-Star Kart Racing, accounting for nearly one-third of its 22 drivers.Kung Fu Pandaranks second in this respect with four racers, while every otherDreamWorksfranchise included in the game has one or two characters.
In addition to the 20 drivers from the base game,DreamWorks All-Star Kart Racingalso features two characters exclusive to its Rally Pack DLC. Those areKung Fu Panda’s Grand Master Oogway and Wolf (Death) from theOscar-nominatedPuss in Boots: The Last Wish. Much like the rest of the game’s roster, both Oogway and Wolf are accompanied by their own distinct karts. The kart chassis in the upcoming DreamWorks-licensed racer can also be customized, similar to the vehicles in theMario Kartseries.
Although the game’s selection of drivers is light on characters fromTrolls, the main cast of that popular franchise is very much part ofDreamWorks All-Star Kart Racing, having been entrusted with the roles of race announcers. Players will also be able to pick up some troll hitchhikers while rushing down the tracks, who will, in turn, act as this game’s equivalent ofpower-bestowing items fromMario Kart.
The base version ofDreamWorks All-Star Kart Racingwill retail at $39.99, while its Rally Edition will be $10 more expensive. The Rally Pack included in the latter will also be sold separately. The game itself is set to receive a physical release for the Switch and the last two generations of PlayStation and Xbox consoles. Meanwhile, PC gamers will only be able to buy it digitally, either via Steam or the Microsoft Store.
