At 10 A.M. this morning, the Nintendo Switch Indie World Showcase showed off a variety of new titles, sixteen in total. A little over halfway through the presentation, the release date forOddworld: Stranger’s Wrath HDwas announced during a brief fifty-second video that played during the showcase. The game is slated to be released on January 23rd, 2020.

Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrathhas seen quite a large amount of releases on a cacophony of different gaming platforms such as the original XBOX, Steam, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita, and many more, with the Nintendo Switch being the latest addition. TheOddworldfranchise has been around for decades and this latest port gives new players the chance to experience this classic game on a new platform with updated sound design, graphics, and gameplay. Not to mention that a completely newOddworldgame titledOddworld: Soulstormthat is set to be released sometime next year.

However, compared to some of the other titles announced during the Nintendo Switch Indie World Showcase, it seems thatOddworld: Stranger’s Wrath HDhas been dwarfed over by other games, such asThe SurvivalistsandAxiom Verge 2, the sequel to the widely popular Metroid inspired platformer. Regardless, it’s unfortunate that a port to a cult classic game is getting overlooked by the majority of fans, though that’s not to say that all of the other games announced during the showcase deserve less excitement.

Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath HDwill release July 21, 2025 for Nintendo Switch.
