Known as the Clap Pokemon, Spheal is an Ice and Water dual-type Pokemon that made its debut inPokemon Ruby and Sapphirefor the Game Boy Advance. In its appearances, Spheal evolved into Sealeo at level 32, and then into Walrein at level 44. Spheal isn’t available inPokemon Scarlet and Violetat the time of writing, with the mostrecent appearance of Spheal inPokemon Legends: Arceus. With its round body and endearing demeanor, Spheal has been considered one of the more popular Pokemon from the third generation. One Pokemon fan artist decided to pay tribute to the Clap Pokemon with their latest creation.
On Reddit, aPokemonfan named JoyJoyPoke, also known as pokamii on YouTube, created a Spheal plate from clay and shared their work on the r/pokemon subreddit and in a YouTube video on their channel. Known fortheir previous work with a Jigglypuff plate, the video from the OP went into detail about the creative process behind the Spheal plate. Starting with some ceramic clay, pokamii used another bowl to form the shape of the new plate and then made Spheal’s teeth, ears, and upper body using additional clay and attaching it by hand. Once the shape of the plate was formed, the plate was put into a kiln to heat up and harden.
After the plate cooled, pokamii set to work painting Spheal using off-white paint then used light blue and white paint for the rest of the Pokemon’s features. Finally, Spheal’s eyes and nostrils were painted on using black and white paint, and a thin brush to avoid any paint bleeding over with the rest of the plate. Once the paint dried, the OP then finished their work by making some cookies and placing them on the plate. Like theirprevious work with a Slowpoke fountain, pokamii received praise fromPokemonfans. Some of the comments on r/pokemon were a mix of gratitude and Spheal puns.
Though Spheal will not be part ofPokemon Scarlet and Violetfor the foreseeable future, trainers can stillcatch Spheal and its evolutions inPokemon GO. Only time will tell when Spheal will make its next appearance in thePokemonseries.
