Summary
Mega Evolution has been incredibly popular amongPokemonfans since it was introduced, with the phenomenon recently inspiring an artist from thePokemoncommunity to create their own Mega Yveltal design. Though the legendary Pokemon Xerneas and Yveltal strangely didn’t get their own official Mega forms when they were introduced in the Gen 6Pokemongames, fans have shared many of their own custom designs over the years, with the recent reveal ofPokemon Legends: Z-Aresulting in tons of new fan-made Mega concepts.
As beloved as Mega Evolution is among much of thePokemoncommunity, newer fans of the franchise may have never heard of it due to the phenomenon of Mega Evolution being absent from every core-seriesPokemongame since thePokemon Let’s Go, Pikachu!andLet’s Go, Eevee!titles, which were released back in 2018. Introduced inPokemon X and Ywhile also playing a major role in thePokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphiregames, Mega Evolution allowsPokemon to evolve beyond their final evolutionary stagefor a brief period, gaining significantly boosted stats alongside a new appearance. Not every Pokemon can Mega Evolve, however, though a select few Pokemon do have multiple unique Mega forms.

Since thebox legendaries of the Gen 6Pokemongamesoddly didn’t receive official Mega forms, one artistic member of thePokemoncommunity known as El-psy-congroo-01 recently designed their own Mega form for Yveltal. This fantastic custom Mega Evolution has attracted plenty of attention among fans in no time at all, and features a whole new design for Yveltal which somewhat incorporates the colors of the legendary Pokemon’s shiny version. This Mega form also sees Yveltal’s secondary Flying-type swapped out for the Ghost-type, and, as some fans were quick to point out, bears some resemblance to Darkrai in certain areas.
The legendary Pokemon of the Kalos region may never have received their own Mega forms, but they have been obtainable in almost every core-seriesPokemontitle sincePokemon X and Y. The exceptions to this arePokemon Scarlet and Violet, where Xerneas and Yveltal were the only boxlegendary Pokemon unobtainable via the NPC Snacksworth, possibly as an early hint at the nextPokemongame returning to the Kalos region.
Pokemon Fans Won’t Have to Wait Long to Return to the Kalos Region
Despite the rumors at the time insisting that fans should expect Unova or Johto-based games next, community expectations were totally subverted whenPokemon Legends: Z-Awas revealed on Pokemon Day at the end of February. Set to release at an unknown point in 2025,Pokemon Legends: Z-Awill see players embarking on a new adventurein the Kalos region, and has already stirred up plenty of excitement among thePokemoncommunity as a whole.
