OnePokemonfan recently went online to share a humorous meme, in which they draw a comparison between Slurpuff and Celesteela, noting a surprising difference between the two. WhilePokemonhas had inconsistencies with the creatures featured in the various generations of the franchise, this difference is quite comical considering the nature of the two Pokemon in question.
The Pokemon in question, Slurpuff and Celesteela, hail from different generations.Slurpuff is a fairy-typethat originated in the sixth generation of the games back in 2013. Celesteela is a steel/flying type that made its debut during the seventh generation of the franchise three years later in 2016. One player shared a surprising detail about the two Pokemon in a social media post, regarding an interesting stat difference.

Reddit user yeahright2005 shared a meme which draws a direct comparison between Slurpuff and Celesteela’s speed values. What might surprise online audiences is that Celesteela, a Pokemon designed to resemble a rocket ship, is slower than Slurpuff by a value of eleven. Speed values throughout thePokemonfranchise on average sit around 66 for base form Pokemon, with 78 being the average for fully evolved creatures. This means that not only is Slurpuff faster than aPokemonthat resembles an aircraft and is a part of the rare group known asUltra Beasts, but it’s also faster than most other base form critters from across the franchise. Slurpuff’s speed is valued at 72, with Celesteela trailing behind at 61, making Slurpuff around 16% faster.
In the past fans have used math to determine the real world speed of Pokemon like Pidgeot. Pidgeot has a speed of 101, but in its Pokedex entry it’s explicitly stated that Pidgeot can travel at Mach 2, or 1534 miles per hour. Talonflame has a whopping speed of 126, but in the Pokedex it’s given a top speed of 310 miles per hour. Ultimately this means that fans can’t rely on statistics to determine accurate speeds for Pokemon, as Game Freakhasn’t been consistent in Pokemon speed ratings.
Slurpuff and Celesteela haven’t been featured in anyPokemontitles together, so players really only have this direct speed stat comparison to go on. What makes the statistics so interesting is that judging solely by appearance one would assume the results to be reversed. Slurpuff is small and unassuming, sharing a lot of design beats withfan-favorite Pokemon Jigglypuff. By contrast Celesteela is massive and intimidating, sharing design beats with other Ultra Beasts. Though the comparison is intriguing, and somewhat humorous, it does help identify inconsistencies withPokemonstatistics that have been a recurring theme within the franchise.
