Inventory is something thatPokemon GOplayers will need to constantly sort out if they want to have room for the items they absolutely need. While items unfortunately can’t be sold like they can in the mainlinePokemongames,GOtrainers have the option to discard them. One item they may want to discard are Potions.

Pokemon Centers do not exist inPokemon GO, leaving trainers to heal their Pokemon through the use of Potions. Since this is the only reliable way to recover health, it won’t do trainers any good if they discard every Potion in their inventory. Like Poke Balls, there are different types of Potions inGO. Thus it’s best if trainers can tell the difference between each one before they discard anything.

Where to Get Potions

Players will earnPotionsandRevivesin the early stages ofPokemon GO. They’re used in a “tutorial” mode that teaches players how to restore their Pokemon to full health. As players increase the Trainer Level, they’ll unlock three other types of Potions: Super Potions, Hyper Potions, and Max Potions.

Regular Potions can be obtained from spinning PokeStop and Gym discs. Once players meet the level requirements, they can get Super Potions and Hyper Potions from PokeStops/Gyms too. However, it’s easier to get Hyper Potions during a Daily PokeStop Spin. If players spin a PokeStop or Gym for seven consecutive days, they’ll receive bonus items for achieving a Daily Spin. On Day 7, players will get a variety of items including an evolution item such as a Dragon Scale.

Potions are also given as rewards for Raids, defeating Team GO Rocket, and certain tasks in the Special Research category. There are also Gifts, which players can give and receive from Friends. The higher the Friendship Level, the more likely that players will get Hyper Potions or Max Potions.

Players can buy x10 Max Potions for 200 Coins at the in-game Shop.

When Should You Discard Potions?

Potions should be discarded when the Item Bag is getting full, but players will want to discard the lowest-healing Potions before anything else. This means getting rid of the purple Potions (20HP) and the Super Potions. However, players will only want to do this if they have plenty of Hyper Potions or Max Potions. If players only have 3 Max Potions, 1 Hyper Potion, and 20 regular Potions, then they should keep everything.

Another factor that determines whether players should discard Potions are Raids and Battles. Pokemon will lose HP when they’re thrown into battle. If the trainer takes part in many Raids/Gym Battles, then they’ll want to refrain from discarding Potions. If they need to make room in their inventory, they should consider enhancing their Storage (200 Coins) or find something else to discard.
