To date, Game Freak and Nintendo have released two trailers for the upcomingPokemon Scarlet and Violet. The first trailer revealed some of the returning Pokemon that will be featured in the new games while also revealing the starters, while the secondPokemon Scarlet and Violettrailer highlighted more of the new Generation 9 Pokemon and some of the games' features. Besides the fact thatPokemon Scarlet and Violetwill be open world games, one of the most-talked about features in the new games is the ability to play in 4-player co-op.

Concrete details onPokemon Scarlet and Violet4-player co-opand how it works are unavailable at the time of this writing, but based on what was shown in the trailer, it seems players won’t be tied down to their co-op partners and freely explore the game world. There may be restrictions on co-op that have yet to be revealed, but it seems pretty promising so far.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violetintroducing proper co-op to the main seriesPokemongames could have its advantages beyond simply lettingPokemontrainers play together. It will also make version exclusives much more interesting. For decades now, the only wayPokemonplayers were able to obtainversion exclusive Pokemonwas by trading them from one game to the other, and while that will presumably still be possible in the new games, co-op will potentially open the door for a new method of catching version exclusive Pokemon.

Barring any unannounced restrictions to the way co-op works, it seems as thoughPokemon Scarlet and Violetplayers will be able to visit their friends in the other version and catch wild Pokemon. This is implied in the trailer when it shows the co-op players taking part inPokemon Scarlet and Violetbattles with wild Pokemon. This means that, for example,Pokemon Scarletplayers will be able to visit the world of aPokemon Violetplayer and catch the version exclusive Pokemon for themselves instead of having to trade.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violetfans will need to stand by for more information on co-op to be completely sure how it will work in the new games. There are rumors that a newPokemon Scarlet and Violettrailer is set to drop in the relatively near future, but nothing official has been announced just yet. For now, all fans have to go by is what was shown in thefirst twoPokemon Scarlet and Violettrailers, but hopefully more info comes to light soon.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violetwill launch on November 18, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
