Whenever a new main seriesPokemongame comes out, one of the most exciting things about it is seeing the new Pokemon. So far, Nintendo and Game Freak have kept most of the new Pokemon that will be featured inPokemon Scarlet and Violetsecret, with the exception of the three new starter Pokemon. Fans have yet to learn what thePokemon Scarlet and Violetstarter Pokemon evolve into, but it seems many are hoping that fire-type starter Fuecoco avoids a fire-type evolution cliche.

In theGeneration 3 ofPokemon, fire-type starter Torchic eventually evolves into Blaziken, a dual fire/fighting-type Pokemon. Then Generation 4 fire-type Chimchar evolves into fire/fighting-type Infernape. This continued with the Generation 5 fire-type starter Tepig, who becomes fire/fighting-type Emboar. And while Cinderace and Incineroar are not fire/fighting-types (Incineroar is a fire/dark-type and Cinderace is a pure fire-type), visually, they look similar to fighting-types. In fact, Incineroar is designed to look like a professional wrestler.

So three out of eight fire-type Pokemon starters wind up as fire/fighting-types when they reach their final form, and two others resemble fighting-types thanks to their humanoid shapes. It seems manyPokemonfans are hoping thatScarlet and Violetfire-type starter Fuecocoavoids this cliche, with a recent meme on Reddit gaining 13.9 thousand upvotes by expressing interest in a couple possible dual-typing combos, but disappointment in the potential fire/fighting-type it could become.

At the time of this writing, fans have no idea what Fuecoco’s final evolution will be, and it’s possible that they won’t know untilPokemon Scarlet and Violet’s release date rolls around. Sometimes Nintendo and Game Freak like to keep Pokemon final evolutions secret, but other times they are revealed in advance in trailers. In any case, all fans can do right now is speculate aboutwhat Fuecoco will evolve into, though there is one theory that makes a fire/fighting-type final evolution seem unlikely.

Based on thefire-type Chinese Zodiac theory, it’s possible that Fuecoco will turn into a snake-like creature by the time it reaches its final evolution. It seems unlikely that Game Freak would make a limbless creature like a snake be a fire/fighting-type, but that does open the door for many other possibilities. Perhaps Fuecoco’s fire-type wil be paired with fairy or steel, or maybe since it seems to be modeled after a hot pepper, it will remain a pure fire-type.

Again, anything about thePokemon Scarlet and Violetstarters final evolutionsis just speculation until official details come from Game Freak and Nintendo. The new games are expected to launch by the end of the year, though, so fans should expect more information to come in the months ahead.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violetwill launch in late 2022, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
