Summary
Pokemon Scarlet and Violetplayers can visit GameStop now to get a code for an Electric Tera type Mimikyu. Mimikyu is a popular Ghost-type Pokemon that was first introduced in the Generation 7Pokemongames,Pokemon Sun and Moon.
Ever since it first debuted, Mimikyu has been a breakout star of the Generation 7Pokemongames. Endless Mimikyu merch has been produced, with the creature also featured as the focus of events in variousPokemongames. The latest Mimikyu event givesPokemon Scarlet and Violetplayers the chance to add the popular Ghost-type Pokemon to their roster, but one that has an Electric Tera type, greatly expanding its options in battle.

The Electric Tera type Mimikyu is available by visiting one’s local GameStop anytime between October 13 and October 29.Pokemon Scarlet and Violetplayers can get a free code from GameStop while supplies last that will get them the Electric Tera type Mimikyu complete with a Cherish Ball, Classic Ribbon, and Life Orb. Additionally, this free Mimikyu knows the move Thunderbolt, which players will be able to enhance greatly if they choose to terastallize it in battle. The code can be redeemed through theMystery Gift menu, much like otherPokemon Scarlet and Violetdistribution events.
Terastallization is the new battle gimmick introduced inPokemon Scarlet and Violet. It greatly enhances the power of a specific type, with the twist being that Pokemon do not have to terastallize into their base type. This is how Mimikyu, which is typically aGhost-type Pokemon, can terastallize into an Electric-type. As one might imagine, this can dramatically shift battles, forcing players to shake up their strategies in ways that they haven’t needed to before in pastPokemongames.
It’s unlikely that this gimmick will extend beyondPokemon Scarlet and Violet, though that remains to be seen. Generally speaking, thesePokemonbattle gimmicks have only lasted one generation before getting the boot, much to the disappointment of fans. Fans have particularly voiced their disapproval of Mega Evolutions going away after theGeneration 6Pokemongames, but Game Freak has given no indication that it plans on bringing them back in future games.
FuturePokemongames will likely introduce their own battle gimmicks, but in the meantime, fans can enjoy terastallization inPokemon Scarlet and Violetand its DLC. The firstPokemon Scarlet and VioletDLC is available now, though fans will have to wait a little bit longer to get their hands onThe Indigo Disk expansion.
