At first glance,Ms. MarvelKamala Khanalready seems like the representation of the modern-day pop culture fan - she loves social media, video games, and superheroes, especially Carol Danvers who was Ms. Marvel prior to becoming Captain Marvel. Lucky for her, she exists exactly in a world of superheroes, as she lives in the mainMarveluniverse. So when Kamala develops powers after being exposed to the Terrigen Mist, she adopts the Ms. Marvel moniker and began doing heroic acts herself.

With Ms. Marvel being one of the newest heroes thatMarvelis about to introduce in theMarvel StudiosfilmThe Marvels, it makes sense to get to know Kamala more than just her fascination for Carol. In fact, one of the newest additions of theMarvel Studiosfilm to Kamala is the lack of her staple polymorphing ability. But in this regard, what other powers does Ms. Marvel have?

7Change Her Mass

Whileelastics such as Mr. Fantasticcan transform his body and body parts into different shapes, they don’t necessarily change the overall makeup of his body. When taking larger or smaller forms, both Mr. Fantastic and Ms. Marvel follow the square law and becomes capable of dishing out tougher attacks.

However, when Ms. Marvel changes the makeup of her body, she’s actually capable of alsochanging her mass. This allows her to be naturally heavier or lighter than she already is, with this being a factor as to the kind of shapes and effects she can conjure with her shapeshifting.

6Approximate Carrying Capacity

Unlike other superheroeswith superhuman strengthshown capable of ridiculous feats of strength, Ms. Marvel seems to have declared a physical limit to her ability to tap into superhuman strength - at least, whenever she wills herself to be able to carry things heavier than her.

It seems Ms. Marvel can onlylift up to 75 tons. While this doesn’t seem a lot, 75 tons is the approximate weight of groups of some large machines such as charter buses, yachts, as well as loaded large trucks. Although not as world-saving as other feats of strength, Ms. Marvel can hold out on her own in terms of smaller missions.

5Rapid Healing Factor

Thanks to her morphogenetics, Ms. Marvel technically possesses the ability to “heal” herself through themanipulation of her molecules, giving her some sort ofrapid healing factor. She can even heal herself from bullet wounds and even serious injuries, although the latter requires rest on her part.

In the comics, Ms. Marvel using her healing factor does pause the use of her other abilities. This makes sense, considering she’s probably “using” her powers already to repair her body from the damage caused to her. This period stops her molecules from being malleable, hence forcing her to stay in her current form for the duration of the healing.

4Appearance Shapeshifting

Unlike other shapeshifters,Ms. Marvel possesses abilities similar to the mutant Mystiquein the form ofAppearance Shapeshifting. Not only that, but Ms. Marvel can manipulate her own physical appearance, changing her clothes and even her hair color.

Given her ability to change her own appearance, it’s demonstrated that Ms. Marvel can impersonate the likes of James Rhodes. While incapable of completely mimicking even the voice, behaviorisms, and subtle cues of the person of her choice like Mystique, Ms. Marvel has complete control over her molecules to assume the appearance of other people. She’s potent in this ability enough to dupe Tony Stark into thinking he’s talking to James Rhodes.

3Inanimate Shapeshifting

Aside from being able to change her mass, appearance, and shapes of her body parts, Ms. Marvel has alsodemonstrated the uncanny abilityofinanimate shapeshifting, essentially transforming herself to mimic inanimate objects to avoid detection.

This is demonstrated when Kamala was seen transforming into the size of an action figure, as well as other inanimate objects around her so others couldn’t notice her presence. Although a bit straightforward of an ability, this does improve the odds of Ms. Marvel being able to infiltrate bases undetected, and may even be able to work covertly without risk of detection due to the nature of her powers.

2Bioluminescence

It’s common for earlydepictions of superheroesin cartoon media to emit a glow to denote that they’re about to use their powers, especially for those who use energy blasts or more obscure abilities like telepathy. However, Ms. Marvel actually does exhibit a degree ofbioluminescencewhenever demonstrating her powers.

Throughout the comics, Ms. Marvel glows yellow whenever she uses her powers. While this can simply be an indication of using her abilities, this can be bad news in high-stress situations where enemies may want to catch Kamala off-guard - and this is precisely when she starts using her powers.

1Time Travel, To A Degree

One ofthe most prominent powersof Ms. Marvel is that of morphogenetics, allowing her to change not just the shape but the mass of her body at will. However, this does make Kamala constantly break space-time. After all, she couldn’t possibly change her mass - her mass should be an intrinsic part of her body. The answer?Time travel, at least to a degree.

In her 2016 comics series, it’s revealed that Kamala is able to “change” mass because she’s constantly sharing her mass with her past and future selves. When she uses her powers, her molecules are constantly time-traveling. Theoretically, given enough control, Kamala could probably time travel as well.
